I assume the remake is Back in Action?  I got it without having played the original(s?), so without any investment in the series or expectations of how it should be.  Overall I enjoyed it, enough that I've gone back and replayed it a couple times over the years (although I've not actually completed it yet - I feel it starts to drag a bit towards the late game). 

I'd say it's definitely worth it for the sale price, so long as the real time pause-and-give-orders thing isn't a personal deal breaker.

Yeah, I've always meant to but never really got around to it - I've never figured out how I got all the X-Com games as they came out (well, the isometric turn based tactical ones anyway) but JA completely slipped under my radar.

Guess I need to keep an eye on JA2 for future sales.

Speaking of golden oldies I may gush about a bit, I spotted something cool on gamersgate:

Thief Collection on GamersGate for 5€ for the next five days. If you don't know them, they're some of the best stealth games ever made. Third one isn't quite up to the standards set by its predecessors, but it's good fun too.

Sure they have the new thief game on sale too but it's way beyond my preferred price range so no fancy link editing for that.

Snagged. Not the best game by far, but for free it isn't so bad.

It wasn't quite as sneaky and open as I had hoped. But sure, at that price it's certainly worth trying out if it at all interests you. Sniping in -45 Berlin does have some allure.

After playing the first two to death in high school, I found the third one to be quite acceptable.  The change in engine was jarring but allowed much better lighting effects.  The items are a little simplified, which is both good and bad, but the important ones are all still there.  Shopping for items seems more practical and fun, so I was able to stop hoarding everything forever.  And of course they introduced the ability to just roam the city, mugging or pickpocketing people (and overhearing clues to treasure locations).

And the Cradle mission was one of my favorite levels in any game.  Very tense and spooky.

Edit: Also SCOOORE on the CK2 DLC.  You can even buy the individual DLCs you need at the reduced price.  Seems a bit early for the India DLC to go on sale, but I'll take it!

I've never played any CK game, but I think I'm interested. I also hear the DLC matters a lot. Would it be best to get the complete edition? Are there particular DLCs I should cherry pick?

The DLC does not matter a lot. You can read about the possibly worthwhile ones at www.ckiiwiki.com under the 'Major DLCs' heading. IMO the best ones are sword of islam (kill all infidels mode) and the old gods (pillage rape and plunder mode).

You'd probably want Sons of Abraham as well since 90% chance you'll be playing an Ahambric religion at some point.

For CK2 DLCs, Legacy of Rome is probably the absolute best purely for retinues, which are highly useful for everyone regardless of your religion.  Most of the other DLC unlocks various religions (Sword of Islam = Islamic; The Old Gods = Pagan; Rajas of India = Indian; The Republic = Republics; Sons of Abraham = Jewish), along with other features, so if you don't want to play those characters, they become somewhat less important.
