Opinions on Ring Runner: Flight of the Sages, anyone? It's pretty darn cheap, and I like spaceships... but how's the multiplayer?

No bloody clue. Haven't played the multiplayer. Haven't played all that much of the single player, either, but once you get over the port issues, it was pretty fun. I'd recommend, especially at that price.

Played part of the campaign and tried one multiplayer game so far. It's fun. Lots of unique ship systems, ultimately leading to plenty of designs. I can see some silly combinations being made.

Thanks for the advice, guys - I went ahead and nabbed a four pack so I could gift 'em to friends. Gonna have loads of fun with this one, I think.

In other news, Frozen Synapse is 80% off for the weekend deal. You strategy lovers might want to jump on that.

With Civilization: Beyond Earth announced, it might be worth mentioning that its spiritual predecessor Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, including the expansion pack Alien Crossfire, is on sale on Good Old Games for 60% off this weekend.  Ping, for those few who haven't had the chance to enjoy it yet.  Other offers include Theme Hospital, SimCity 2000, Wing Commander, Dungeon Keeper, and Populous.  ^_^

If you ended up with the base game in a Humble Bundle this is the chance to buy the expansion for $2.

Hey guys, just have a quick Steam question, and since we don't have a general Steam thread I thought I'd ask here rather than starting a new thread.

I've just noticed that all my games in Steam put their saved game folders in my Documents folder. It's really irritating; I like to have that folder clean and organized, and it's full of all these garbage files that I can't move or delete. Is there a way to change this? I can't find any setting in Steam that controls where this stuff goes. Or is it up to the individual games, and I'd have to change each and every one of them (and I have a feeling most of them can't be changed)? Why is all this stuff going to Documents rather than the Steam folder, where the programs are stored?

Just dealt with that recently myself:
Go into the Steam tab->settings
in the settings do to the downloads tab, top of page it should say content libraries: Steam Library Folders.
that should let you define where steam files go.

Hm... I looked at that already, it's set to the Steam folder in Program Files. So does that mean it's the individual games doing this? : /

Usually, yes. Steam does not control where saved games go, except when the saves are stored within the game folder (ex: Kerbal Space Program). Some games have settings as to what folder the games store the saves in, and I believe in other cases the saves aren't stored in user files so much as they are stored in a folder called "My Games", which might be defined by the OS, so theoretically changeable via registry.

In other news, Cortex Command. I pretty much know what the game is, but I was wondering what other people think of it. On sale at half off... Recently updated with squad mechanics and Workshop integration... It's a neat little thing for fooling around, as I remember, but not so much playing (unlike, say, KSP) - it's not quite developed enough to really capture the player's attention. On the other hand, it did update balance as well, supposedly, so... sort of teetering on the brink of buying, held back by a general unwillingness to spend money on games at the moment, considering I already have quite enough of those.

Odd. There is a system-created folder called "My Games" within documents, but none of the games go there. They all go straight into Documents. I guess I'll have to fiddle around with each game and see if I can find a setting to change the save location... Just seems so strange to me that they go there instead of just into the game folder. It's like the games think they are located in Documents or something, and use the Documents folder for all their extra files, saves, configs, everything.

EDIT: Looking at a few of the games, it's clear that there is no setting to change the saved games / screenshots / settings / etc. directories anywhere. So for some reason all games are putting everything in Documents by default. And it turns out it's not just Steam games, but all games. So I guess this will have to go to the Life Advice forum or something. Thanks anyway.

I personally decided to wait for the summer sale hoping for a 75%.
I already have enough games to last me to summer and then some.

Yah, that part of games (Saving, screenshots, config files, etc) are more up to the developers on where they feels the best place for them, from what I understand at least. I have game folders all throughout those document folders.

It's annoying. At one time Sins of a Solar Empire decided it was going to change the location of all future files, so I have the older game and expansions config files in one location (local settings) and the more recent ones in "my documents/my games/ironclad"

I bought it for the full price at Steam release. I've been playing the pirated version for a while then, and I'm still playing it now.

The main thing about it is not the base game but the incredible modability it has, which created at least two new great modes (an alternate Campaign that has you building barracks, airfields, labs etc. instead of just dropping bases around, researchable items and more; and a FTL/X-COM inspired mode where you fly around in an upgradeable spaceship and are a mercenary company for various factions in exchange for money and the faction's tech, both by a modder who recently joined the dev team) to mess around in in singleplayer.

Plus it can be a party game if you got some spare gamepads. Or, since the last update, you can just drop in two AI factions and let them duke it out.
