Creeper World 3 seems pretty interesting, and is 10% off. Any thoughts?

Have a look at youtube. That should explain everything.

Yes, I'm looking at Youtube. That layout certainly has changed quite a bit over the years, hasn't it? Not sure what it explains about my question though.

I was curious about the game in general and went to look at youtube for a map playthrough. Neat fluid mechanic but much slower than turtling in Supreme Commander. Didn't look that fun to me, but I don't know the past games.

I remember playing the original Creeper World like, 4 or 5 years ago (there may have been a flash version before then, I mean the client). I thought it was really fun, and it's an interesting take on tower defense and resource management. I wouldn't even call it tower defense, really, or at least I haven't connected it with that genre until later. Not sure what's changed since then with the games, but I'd try out this first, which includes the tutorial and I think a few missions of the original. I'd say for that price you'll probably get good value out of it, but I'd personally wait for a deeper discount (just me though, I'm horrendously cheap).

Well, it's certainly an interesting take on tower defense. I'm not sure it's worth... however much it's worth in USD because I can't see the price, but even though I usually pay like half price in rubles, as it is now I consider it overpriced. I don't doubt it's fun if you can get into it, but no matter how much I liked the general idea and the concept, I couldn't manage the "get into it" part. Not sure exactly what is wrong with it, but something about how it plays annoys me.

Well, I found this video and it seems pretty cool. The commentator mentioned Supreme Commander a lot and I did enjoy that game quite a bit, so I think I'll check this out.

To be clear, both the first and second are just flash games.

I actually just got into creeper world 3, I quite like it and I think it would be worthwhile even without the tiny 10% off.

And I say this as someone who doesn't even like RTS, or even tower defense. It's really something completely different.

Okay, after playing CW3 for about an hour, I think I'm hooked. Do NOT play this game while cooking. I popped some bread into the toaster oven, sat down to play for a minute or two. 10 minutes later I realized that I could smell smoke.

No, they're AIR games. Which also have a very small flash version that basically equates to a mechanics demo/tutorial.

The Creeper World series is great.  Most maps can be cleared at your own pace (once you figure out how to survive the start) but it's possible to win quickly with optimal play, just check the leaderboards.  I tend to play somewhere in between, it's relaxing.

I've been hooked on the third installment since I got it yesterday.  I recommend everyone else play the demo for 1, and maybe the random maps here (update daily):
http://www.kongregate.com/games/whiteboardwar/creeper-world-evermore

I think the demos for #1 and #2 are still on Kongregate also.  The demo for #3 can be downloaded from the developer's website.  You can also just buy the game there to get a non-steam download.

The second game is a side-view instead of a top-down view, and it's interesting in it's own right, but #3 goes back to the top-down style.  I would not recommend playing #3 until you've gotten the mechanics from the tutorial in #1.  #3 adds a lot of new features which are meant for people, like me, who were hungry for more.

Edit: They also greatly improved the graphics for #3, and it's more efficient.  Probably because it isn't AIR anymore.  In #2 I would get lag on the bigger maps when I spammed too many units, just from the number of entities.

It's also worth noting that the controls are much better in 3 than in the original, including box select and moving and line building.
