What does the MLG acronym stand for?

I just picked up Farcry 2 because I played Farcry 3's to death, including Blood Dragon (which is a wonderful piece of thought provoking satire of the 80's satire).  I heard in Farcry 2 you can ambush convoys of vehicles.
That was probably one of my favorite parts of FC2.   Park a car to block the road, hide my own technical behind some bushes, and lay down some IEDs.   Blow explosives, then gun down any survivors.  You could also probally do some also stuff with the mortar.  Put a car on a bridge, get the range, and then when they arrive fire open fire.

Far Cry 1 you are thinking of the console ports which added the mutant powers, the original game you were just a badass merc at the wrong end of the stick.

I would not judge how well you would like a Far Cry game based on how much you like another.

Far Cry 1 was a linear island game where you gained super mutant powers.
Far Cry 2 was a open world island game where the entire world is against you. Your guns will jam and because you contract malaria in the beginning of the game you occasionally have to stop whatever you're doing and go get more malaria medication. Your very disempowered compared to Far Cry 3, your gun jams, clearing out a enemy base won't permanently make enemies stop spawning there, etc.

Far Cry 3 is actually alot like Far Cry 2 except without malaria, capturable bases and the disempowering feeling.

My favorite game in the series is still Far Cry 2, it can just be a little bit frustrating.

Thanks, this makes me even more eager to try FC2.  I enjoyed the early feeling of vulnerability in FC3, and while running around with voodoo tattoo powers was fun, I liked to pretend I still had to be careful and resourceful.  I think I'm going to enjoy FC2, even/especially if it gets frustrating.

I watched my brother play some FC1 and yeah, it just looked like a typical, rather unfair FPS with an annoying guy on the radio.  I thought FC3 was the same until I saw a bit of Nerd^3's ironman LP, which mainly consisted of hiding, profanities, and running...  It looked like an actual survival game, and I wasn't disappointed.  Now I'm ready for something a bit more hardcore, and it sounds like FC2 is it!

Edit: I also liked the story/interactive cutscenes in FC3.  There's a lot of stuff that didn't make any sense, and I don't just mean the trippy drug sequences, but I was still impressed by the characters.  (Except for the other survivors, who felt fake and uninteresting compared to the villains and allies).  Vaas's story would have made a good movie, and it works in this interactive medium just as well.

FC1 brought in dynamics sounds into a whole new level also with intelligent ai that will try to kill you any possible way by calling allies and try to outflank you requiring you to stealth alot instead of CoD bumrush. Other than that you had a sandbox world that you can take whatever direction you want to get to the objective with little/no loadtimes. It was a massive feat at the beginnings of CryEngine.

Yeah, the console ports were frankly crap, and took a lot of the stuff that made it great, instead making it a linear shooter with weird mutation crap. FC2 on the other hand is one of the better games out there. I've logged 100+ hours into that thing, and somehow keep coming back to it just to mess around. There are some annoying aspects to it, but the setting and premise of the game is novel, the Jackel is an extremely well written character (especially his tapes) and the ending is a pièce de résistance. Also, I hate collectibles, but I actually found finding the diamonds a fun side thing to do. Plus just going out and setting up your ambushes on those bases was ridiculously fun.

TL;DR, buy it. It's getting dated now in terms of design, but still a lot of fun.

If there is one thing I would like a mod for in Farcry 2 it would be making the respawn timers on checkpoints be longer.

Farcry 1 was very impressive with it's graphics when it came out, and the aforementioned AI. Though I do remember being shot from long distances by enemies that could see me hiding in the bushes.

I must disagree. I found FC2 to be painfully lacking in terms of having the world be alive. To me, it feels like someone just plopped spawnpoints on a big pseudo-open (there's a lot of corridors - like having the road be limited by cliffs or jungle on both sides, plus the rivers) world.

There are no non-hostile NPCs in the world outside of missions or calling in someone to cover your ass, and even if you're working for one of the two factions this does absolutely fuckall in terms of gameplay, since both sides will still shoot you. Making accomplishing missions feel completely pointless.

Maybe it gets better later, but I couldn't tell because I'm getting bored out of my mind after doing one mission at a time and then I have to take a break, since, at least early missions, amount to 'go to place X and shoot people' with no variety whatsoever, and coupled with the absurd refill time of checkpoints, shooting becomes a chore.

So, Orion: Dino Horde is...91% off. Making it cost 1 freakin dolla/eur.

And I've just read Orion: Prelude article the same guys are putting out in Q4 2014...Quite a rocky road was threaded for this guys to get so far, it seems. I like them. And Prelude will be a free upgrade for owners of Dino Horde.

Might as well buy 4-pack.

I just wish combat was more deadly. Needing to emptying almost a whole clip into an enemy at point blank to kill them. Multiple headshots required to kill also. Did have a lot of fun with the MAC-10.

Yah, I really do like the action in the game. I've tried installing mods for Farcry 2 but it's not easy. Here's a realism mod, but I can't give any opinions on it as I found it just then. Doesn't change checkpoints (No mods do that from my searching), but it increases damage and enemy aggressiveness.

There weren't any mods when I last looked. Might have to give it another install then.

I don't suppose anyone here goes by the Steam name Hedgehog11, do they? Got a friend request out of the blue and I tend to ignore unsolicited requests unless they're either Bay Watchers or random people I play with online, and I haven't done the latter thing for a few years now.

Check if they're in the DF Steam Group?

Says we have no friends or groups in common, and I'm in the DF group. Then again, not every Bay Watcher is in the group.
