Drox Operative...

It plays like a space-based Diablo-like with a 4X game going on in the background where all these space empires will compete for space and colonize/destroy/invade planets. You can do a bunch of randomly generated missions to help/hinder certain factions, and the rewards/loot are modules to upgrade your ship.

Unfortunately, when combining the two genres they missed out on every strong point of either. The loot for the first three sectors was a pure numbers game, with nothing gameplay-altering about any of it. Higher quality just means bigger numbers. The quests are random... but they're all "buy X deliver to Y" or "kill random spawn something somewhere."

You can spend your fetch quest money by bribing factions for the 4X style of it. Unfortunately, you can only get so many benefits from bribing the same planet. So you make money by flaying between planets, then spend money by flying between planets. Combat is tedious, because you can't organize an assault, just hang out near an allied border colony til they send a fleet, and hope enough of them make it to another system to take out one colony, which will then be overrun by the ships from every other colony in the system. Retreat. Repeat.

TL;DR
Tries to combine two genres, fails at making either (or the combination) interesting. Tedious. Grindy.

Well, really depends on the person I guess. One way to look at it is how Darkmere put it. The other is to think of it as a Diablo clone in space with factions going on their business even if you don't interact with them.
Of course 4X aspect of the races is limited, not being full-blown 4X game. Grindy? As any other Diablo clone I guess. The start is also slow.
Taking over planets is really not necessary thing to do though. You can assists in doing so, maybe in rare cases or in higher levels even do so yourself (never got past 30 I think), but you don't have to. You can be hostile to all factions if you wish, be friendly with anyone, something in between...Really, your aim is to profit off them. The ways to do so are not unlimited, but it can be fun none-the-less.

All said above, it's been a while since I played it. But personally, I like Drox Operative.

I'd say grab it if you fancy yourself a Diablo clone with a twist. For 10€ or whatever the price in your case is, it's worth it imho.

Drox Operative reminds me of Transcendence... speak of which, there's a $3 expansion available.

Yeah, if you're into ARPGs Drox Operative isn't bad, or amazing. It's a decent game if you're into that kind of stuff! The fact that the world is changing and there are factions, multiple ways to "win" a galaxy, etc, is interesting. How much of ARPGs aren't numbers games though? I remember playing the original Diablo and always waiting for the Falchion, which was the best weapon you could get earlyish game before rare items really appeared. Here at least there's more randomisation and more variation.

I've heard Farm Simulator '13 is great if you're the kind of person who enjoys EuroTruck Simulator. Apparently it's like that, but better, with more to do and things :)

The thing with *good* ARPG's though is that they have things to break up the numbers game from time to time. Diablo 2's claim to fame was items that granted skills or cast spells on attack, things like that. It was possible to make an entirely proc-based character for a few classes, bypassing some of the numbers game for a playstyle variant with the right gearset.

Drox has nothing of that, as far as I saw (3 sectors in, I think). If I had a +1000 power reactor, I needed a +1001 power reactor. Nothing else mattered. There have been people who said it happens later, though, so I could have just burnt out early.

Ubisoft is having a pretty large sale right now, but it looks fairly underwhelming, except for 35% off on "Petz® Horsez® 2", which I've been dying to pick up for ages now.

Those recommendations:

At first I thought this game was wonderful, but oh how things can change. Don't be deceived by the joyful horse pictures, this is a hazardous game that should not be sold without severe warning. After countless days of raising horses, I was grazing on some nearby greens when my roommate dropped a dish on the ground. It broke and the noise of it spooked me, causing me to rear back and kick him in the head. Now he talks with a speech impediment and has a wonky eye. I haven't launched this game in 3 weeks because it will remind me of the incident. I can't face the reality of what I've done. My family won't speak to me, I have badly infected rug burn on both of my knees, and I'm malnourished from eating nothing but carrots, although my eye sight has never been better. Damn you Petz Horsez, you've ruined my life!!!!

I remember the first Petz Horsez was made by a cadre of founding Blizzard members who decisively split with their handling of WoW mounts, who then went on to make the hardcore survival-horror RPG we see here. It's a bit like Horse Master, but darker.

What does the MLG acronym stand for?

I just picked up Farcry 2 because I played Farcry 3's to death, including Blood Dragon (which is a wonderful piece of thought provoking satire of the 80's satire).  I heard in Farcry 2 you can ambush convoys of vehicles.

I would not judge how well you would like a Far Cry game based on how much you like another.

Far Cry 1 was a linear island game where you gained super mutant powers.
Far Cry 2 was a open world island game where the entire world is against you. Your guns will jam and because you contract malaria in the beginning of the game you occasionally have to stop whatever you're doing and go get more malaria medication. Your very disempowered compared to Far Cry 3, your gun jams, clearing out a enemy base won't permanently make enemies stop spawning there, etc.

Far Cry 3 is actually alot like Far Cry 2 except without malaria, capturable bases and the disempowering feeling.

My favorite game in the series is still Far Cry 2, it can just be a little bit frustrating.
