Huh, anyone want to gift me the portal games? I've already played them but they are one of the best games I have ever played and I want a way to force let people play them.

I just got two 25% off coupons for Broken Age, valid until March 15. I have no interest in buying Broken Age - anyone want them?

"Space Engineers" has got a 33% sale at the moment. A voxel builder like Minecraft or Starmade, the main draws are the damage/object warping that allows ships to be broken in half and holes to be mined in asteroids as well as more realistic space flight (needing engines in all directions to manoeuvre) and a rather nice physics engine.

It's rather light on elements other then building, as mining serves no real function (even though you can take the ore and refine it), and if you come from Starmade the lack of things like turret AI and planets is a bit sad but other then that it's a really nice game, as well as nice looking.

Here's a video showcasing mining and building. It's from a few versions ago but still functionally the same as current. There's a bunch of other videos on that channel showing how to make things like doors and lifts.

Recently an update was released that allowed gravity generators fields to be changed in size, allowing things like local variations in gravity to create vortexes and possibly gravity lifts.

It's not quite realistic at the moment, as you hardly have to pay attention to silly things like thrust/mass distribution. But the damage model and physics interactions are quite good.

That seems to be one specific situation where they've chosen to let physics slide- thrusters apply force only centered on the mass of a vehicle, and this are completely incapable of causing any rotation. In other words, they're strictly translational. This, I'm sure, is just to not crush the dreams of sci-fi fans allow people to place thrusters wherever they deem aesthetically pleasing. In case you're wondering, rotation is accomplished by implausibly-efficient reaction wheels which can be placed anywhere on the craft. The last annoying physics-gripe is that asteroids and stations are 100% completely stationary, which mostly bothers me insofar as I can't attach thrusters to an asteroid, but that's meant to save on physics calculations.

As far as gameplay goes, trust me, that's probably all for the better. It's bad enough when sustaining one impact manages to remove, say, all of your left-facing thrusters. Besides, realistic consequences of where you place your thrusters would probably disappoint anyone who builds a perfect replica of a star destroyer only to find that it yaws back ever so slightly when you move forward.

In terms of the ability to build space ships and then smash them with an entirely dynamic system, it does what it says it does, which as far as I can tell makes it the only game of its kind. Early-access though, which means that a lot of features (like non-creative-mode and large guns) aren't done yet, and the multiplayer is pretty unreliable right now too.

It's not like balancing thrusters can't be done. Ever play Captain Forever? It's 2D, but it showcases the basic point. And then there's KSP. Between the reaction wheels, the possible blocks of multi-directional RCS thrusters, and the ability to alter the output of engines, I'm certain the only reason why Space Engineers did not bother with that bit of space mechanics is that the creators thought that the same people who can spend hours building a flying skyscraper of a ship won't be able to grasp the concept of "use thrusters to turn".

There's also Corneroids - thruster placing, their strength and overall mass is the crucial thing you need to master if you wish to fly any ship in that game.

edit: posted in wrong topic.
I do however have some coupons for Shadow Warrior and Rise of the Triad (-75%) so I'll just pretend this was all about seeing if anyone wants them (Shadow Warrior is a really good game by the way).

And cashing in a 75% off Rise of the Triad coupon got me... a 75% off Shadow Warrior coupon.
Free to a good home. The remake is currently $40, so... $10 for it seems pretty good if you don't want to wait for a sale.
