The better question is... why are all these old school games for arcades suddenly coming onto Steam?

This version will have multiplayer though, which is pretty sweet. Not sure I'd buy it, since I've finished Metal Slug 3 about 50 - 100 times.

Because there aren't many new games for arcades (or anything else) ready to be published for PC, and the publishers are sitting on a massive backlog of (coincidentally old) games that aren't presently being sold, perhaps? This'll keep happening as long as the publishers think the market isn't anywhere near saturation and that they aren't producing fast enough. Won't be long before we have Table Tennis on Steam, updated for modern, non-oscilloscope based PCs, complete with trading cards so Valve can leech off of their psycho-market.

Well apparently Wargame: Airland Battle went on sale recently, so if anyone's into real time strategy I'd love to have company (even if you decide to play NATO, you dirty yankees!).

Though I suspect its mostly on sale because WG:Red Dragon is coming out sometime this year, but still, for eleven dollars I'd say Airland Battle is well worth the five-to-six months of playtime before the next one comes out.

Speaking of old-school games on sale, Jets'n'Guns Gold is 50% off on Steam. It's pretty awesome as far as side-scrolling shoot-em-ups go.

Does anyone want to start a rumour that Firaxis is going to do a remake of Pong?  It might feature full 3d graphics, power-ups and alien opponents - not limited to Thin Men, or Sectoids.
Just waiting for the kickstarter and anouncement on Steam Green-light.  There's your nostalgia.

I snapped this up. Been waiting for it to go on deep sale. $40 for an RTS I've never played but looks great was too high. It is very much a hardcore strategy game though, if the UI and unit detail level are anything to go by.

Democracy 3 is 50% off, $12.5 USD. Sadly, it's DLC has not been cut in price.

The Microsoft Excel-like interface looks sexy.

What do we think?

It's quite entertaining but incredibly easy. Playing sub-optimally (like having a police force or caring about religion) could make it more interesting I guess.

It's very good. Also very hardcore.

To get an idea of how much detail there is, I have actually zoomed in on my command jeeps driving down a long road, and read the roadsigns on the sides of it telling me what the next town was and the speed limit. All this while a massive napalm airstrike was being conducted on the horizon with flak cannons trying to shoot the planes down.

This on a map with twenty players and a thousand different individual units running around.

I bet Valve doesn't mind having more games that work well with controllers when they release their own gamepad.

GOG is having a sale, $15 for all three STALKER games. That's a better deal than I recall seeing on Steam at any point.

How long does the sale last?

"until Sunday, February 9, at 10:59 GMT"

The only bad thing for me personally is I already have vanilla and there are occasional deals with so called loyalty editions on the other sites. I'd cool if GoG did the same but I don't blame them if they don't, all's cool.

As for Steam sales, too bad Bordelands 1 isn't on the sale. Would love to buy one for my family, while it's kinda fun game, it's ultimately a dull solo experience. I'm guessing multy with friends is better.

Looks like UK is getting ripped off then as the goty version is on sale for £17.49 so around $28.70 at current exchange rate.
