If you're able to wait a few weeks,  get Banished. Seems absolutely amazing so far.
Yeeees... must have.

Banished does look pretty great, I remember hearing about it a while ago. Is the price still TBA? Didn't find anything on the site.

Yes, but the dev stated it will be around 20USD.

Well, this seems like the most appropriate thread for this.
I got twenty bucks left in my account, and I'm torn as to get Rust, space engineers, or something else.

To clarify: I want a simulation game, preferably where you can build, that can give me lots of hours playtime.
Any advice?
Ninjaedit: Also, the stand-alone DayZ is a very bad idea. Attempts to make a stand-alone were all well-received until it was apparent that the devs just wanted to gut every living being of all of their money and leave bleeding carcasses everywhere. I'm not sure if it was "DayZ" specifically or not, but one of the games and the devs got fucktons of flak for very poor business ethics towards consumers. I wouldn't go anywhere near a DayZ-type game without seeing lots of reviews.

You are thinking of The War Z. Which was a blatant ripoff of DayZ the mod and ended up being pulled from Steam.

And then put back on renamed as "Infestation: Survivor Stories".

And it's still a steaming load.

Day Z, from what I've heard, is fine, it's just very alpha and not for everyone. Rust is kind of a Day Z clone from what I've seen, but it's got building. I'd look at some videos before deciding on either, but they're more hardcore survival porn* than simulation.

Space Engineers is a game where you make a space ship out of assorted parts and crash them into each other. There's more planned, naturally, but it's mostly just screwing around right now.

*Not literal porn, but Rust does have nudity if you enable it.

Not really about sales, but rather, did Steam crap out recently? And any ideas as to why?

Basically, is Steam working for anyone else?

EDIT:
Even the troubleshooting page is giving me "500" server errors from time to time; meaning I might not be the only one, and the servers got bogged down a bit.

EDIT EDIT:
Seeing the main page (not via Steam, but Firefox), there is a minor explanation, I guess. Servers look like they've peaked.

Yeah, they're having some problem.

The stats page shows a big spike downward.

And it shows a similar problem yesterday.  Though not as bad.

(What's a downward spike called, anyway?  'Trough' doesn't emphasize the sudden drop.)

IIRC the big thing was that Dota 2 released a big patch that everyone was trying to download through the steam servers at the same time, overloading a bunch of them. :P

Kingdoms of Amalur Complete is 75% off.

I've heard from an old contact that it's quite fun, but you might want to look into 38 Studios before buying to decide whether or not you still want it.

The demo is a pretty good indicator of what the game's like, and it's a good example of how to do a demo right.

You basically go through the tutorial, and once you get into the open world you get a time limit. I remember it being an hour or something, plenty of time to get a good taste of the game.

It felt like an MMO with the multiplayer cut out. I got to the open world bit and quit, so I may not be the best source of advice.

The quests are kind of "go here, kill that" but there is a lot of lore written into the game world. Combat is more dodge, parry, block then you'd expect rather then just smacking things until they're dead. There's an item crafting system, along with potions and shards you can use to buff weapons.
Graphically it looks really nice. The art design in the game is quite strong with pretty vistas and vibrant colours. However the camera is quite narrow in angle, about 40 degrees I believe, so your character takes up a fair amount of the screen, blocking the nice views a bit. There is at least two mods that can bring the camera angle up, I use one called Widescreen Fixer.

I haven't finished it, and the plot seems rather usual (guy goes evil and threatens world) but the combat can be a nice challenge with the difficulty turned up. Levelling is through experience, though the games quite free with builds, allowing you to rebuild your character from the ground up whenever by visiting certain NPCs. Three classes, fighter/mage/thief, which can be mixed and matched however (So a fighter/mage who wears heavy armour and casts spells, a mage/thief teleports around throwing daggers). Every level you get a point (or three) to put into one of the three class trees. When enough points have been put into a tree you can chose a card that increases your stats in the same angle. So a mage/thief with 30pts in mage and 10 in thief could take a card called Nightblade, next card at 40/15 points.

There's no patches, nor any fanmade mods/patches, so I'd say the games going to be as it is from now until whenever.

The ship is 80% off, the server lists are bugged and the people who currently own it don't have the rights to change the code so you have to get the ip addresses from another place like here http://www.gameserverdirectory.com/search/the-ship/.

Or you can go to view->servers menu and launch from there.
