Yeah, it just bugged me going through the specials list and having it clogged with dlc for different guns. I guess I just don't play enough 'mainstream' games to notice these trends. It seems like a shitty way to do business though.

There's a theory that some devs use excessive amounts of DLC released in bulk to bump other titles off the new releases list. Steam is often used as an example for this and even today we have Rocksmith taking up more than three quarters of the new releases. This theory has never been proven though and it seems a bit unlikely.

Now I'm curious which singleplayer game first introduced a gun DLC outside of a preorder.

That's right kids, for the low low price of a dollar, you can get that much closer to having a complete game. That price of $59.99 you paid? Oh, that was just to get access to the ability to buy the rest of the game you paid full price for. Yes, buying skills, the wave of the future. And today, it's only $0.19, that's 81% off something that should be included in the game! Wow! Such a deal!

Seriously, this is really pissing me off. Games shouldn't be like this. I need to go blow some Kerbals up or something to unwind. Goodnight.
