Technically on Green Man Gaming but Sid Meier's Civilization V: Gold Edition, Sid Meier's Civilization V: Gods and Kings, and Sid Meier's Civilization V: Brave New World are for sale for $12.99, $7.49 and $10.19 respectively. The Sid Meier's Civilization V base game is also on sale for $7.49 as well.

I might pick up Sid Meier's Civilization V Gold Edition if it's still on sale when I get paid this week. Is the $12.99 deal an alright deal?

I'm curious about this one as well.  Civ V got some poor reviews at start, but I've heard both expansions improved on it.  How does it stand now in comparison to release and Civ IV, my favorite of the bunch?
People didn't like it on release because it didn't stand up to Civ 4's 6 years of patches, expansions, and mods. Now that it's been fleshed out, anybody who has enjoyed a game of the series should get it.

IMO it still doesn't stand up to the major Civ4 mods. I still haven't seen any mods that add completely new mechanics like magic or guilds or religions with special effects. Well, I guess all the religions have special effects now, just not specific to a religion since you can decide what the religion does from the whole pool, less any other effects that had already been selected by another player for a different religion.

I haven't seen any major Civ5 mods that aren't just toying with the numbers that Firaxes provides. Sometimes this is done quite to extremes but it still basically a vanilla Civ5 game with different numbers. Maybe I haven't been looking hard enough?

I still played a lot of the vanilla Civ5. I'm no expert or trained reviewer so I can't give a critical opinion on whether it's better or worse gameplay-wise than Civ4. I'm just disappointed at the lack of modding so far. Also, I really detested the "nickle and dime" DLC civs. I don't want to drop any money at all for a bunch of civs, let alone re-buying the base game through a pack just to get them in one batch.

Autumn Sale just started up on Steam, from today the 27th until Dec 3rd. Usual mix of 24 hour sales and 8 hour flash sales.

Also those of you living in the southern hemisphere should scroll down to the bottom of the Steam front-page for your spring sale.

Excellent, let's see how far I can stretch the 15 dollars I've made selling random TF2 items and trading cards I've accrued over the years.

Most of us flesh human beings live in the Northern Hemisphere. By most I mean ALMOST EVERYONE. 9:1 Don't make me come down there and sit on you. Top billing always!

I noticed very little DLC for sale, just base game and some packages of base with DLC but no individual DLC.

I should probably play Skyrim. I unno. Will probably go lower, my rule is usually $5 or less.

It seems strange to me to do these kind of sales exactly over the days when many people are least liable to get on Steam.

Probably to build awareness for the weekend and reduce server load.

I've seen quite a few. 400 days for walking dead, all the killing floor dlc's, skyrim's dlc's, xcom's slingshot and soldier pack dlc's and so on. I haven't seen any for better than 50% off so far though so it may be worth holding off until the game appears on a daily/flash sale as usually dlc gets a better deal at that point. Or hold out until the winter/new year sale as dlc usually gets a bigger discout during that sale from past experience.

This. Usually Steam grinds to a halt due to overload for several hours when one of the big sales starts up on a thursday/friday so hopefully by starting earlier it won't have as bad an effect.

Which is good marketing, really.  Put the base game on sale, people buy it, then put the DLC on sale.

Another way to think of it is as a Black Friday sale- if you want to gift some game, now is the time to buy.

Hmm, I found something possibly interesting. 's called Sparkle 2 Evo and looks like Spore's cell stage (colorful and detailed, but far more realistic-ish than Spore) meets Flow (the way the creatures look).

Apparently it's basically Spore's cell stage, expanded, including modifying the creature's DNA to boost stats. It looks interesting, and is at 2.50 Euro, but I wonder if anyone heard of it and could recommend it to me.

That's not how DLC works. Play the game for awhile and notice DLC is what should have been in the game so you feel okay buying it because you just got the base game for 50-75% off. The DLC would push your total spending to base game without the discount and the world has been justified.

Looks like the Skyrim base is down to $7.50 today, but with no DLC.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.
