The games just have different focuses. DCSS's focus is on exploration, so they streamlined the system. DoD's focus is pretty clearly on crafting, for which they have a huge variety. It's about what appeals to the individual in this case more than it's about the overall quality of the game.

DoD is a game I liked, though I don't remember doing alot of crafting.

I gave up on the game when it twice crashed and I lost hours of progress each time.

That's what I'm thinking. Instead of just having a sale for the games, they flooded the userbase with coupons.
Maybe as a promotional thing to say "HEY! WE HAVE COUPONS NOW!", since I didn't know until I crafted a couple badges that they exist.

Final Fantasy VII is on sale for $6 on Steam. Seriously considering it, since everyone has gone nuts over FFVII and I was never able to play it. Really enjoyed VIII though. I get the sense that it's underestimated in the FF series due to its proximity to FFVII.

Be warned: you have to create an online account to play for some reason, and I'm not sure if it is possible to play offline. Discovered that last night when I tried it out <_<
