We went really off topic but I'm just going to post a closer to the discussion in case anyone is curious.

I'm just confused why the backassward morality of Australian government is Volition's responsibility to overcompensate for.

Well first of all it's not the Australian government it's the Australian Classification Board which is an independent organisation formed by the government in the 70s. In the past few decades it has been receiving "administrative support" from the Attorney-General's Department which people believe have been putting pressure on the classification to abuse a loophole in Australian law that was the RC (refused classification) rating.

Videos games were getting the brunt of this abuse due to a few reasons. Firsts of all it's a new and misunderstood medium. Secondary it was assumed only children played video games. Thirdly it's believed due to video games being an interactive medium it would influence young people into anti-social behaviour. Lastly it lacked an R 18+ rating which meant it was extremely easy to RC video games that did not fit the classification of MA 15+.
Now that there's an R 18+ the classification board can only come down on video games due to their interactivity which is why the board only really comes down on drugs and sex. It's also only when the product is shown to have reward associated with either drugs or sex, see the Witcher 2 RC or of course Saints Row 4 for example. 

Back on topic. I love the Witcher series even if the combat can be dreadfully annoying at times. It just has one of the best fleshed out worlds and it's actually dark instead of that silly "dark" that games try for but are too afraid of stepping over boundaries, like Dragon Age.

iirc there's a pretty decent looking combat mod/overhaul for The Witcher, which if my memory serves was created by the original devs (I may be slightly or wholly wrong on this, it's just a memory of a story on RPS) a modder who is now employed by the devs.

I have the Witcher but I've never played it for more than 5 minutes. It was the combat poses. They reminded me of... *ugh, shudder* the baseball/fight scene in (the film) Twilight. I don't think I ever got over that thought when I first played it...

The combat overhaul for the Witcher 2 was a misstep in my opinion. It did a lot of good things like adding a whole bunch of animations and making movement more fluid. However it's major downfall was completely breaking gamepad support and getting rid of the active block. Now to block you just have to roll the dice and pray.

One step forward and two steps back.

imo underrail is the neatest one on this list by far

I'm certainly wanting to take a look at that, given that I'm currently playing through GK3.

Don't get me wrong. Silent Storm is great and Jef is one of the better Let's Players out there, but Silent Storm was released in 2003.

I'm excited by the possibility of steam workshop for Dom3. Installing mods for that could be a pain in the ass. If its automated through steam, including updating the mods? Hell yes.

Don't get me wrong. Silent Storm is great and Jef is one of the better Let's Players out there, but Silent Storm was released in 2003.

Well a bunch of other old games are put on steam.  And not all of us have the luxury of having credit cards for getting stuff on GoG.
Also, Running with Rifles is a really good game.  There is a demo, so I'd suggest playing that.  Never played multiplayer, so I'm not sure how good that is.
