Re: Steam Sales: SUMMER SALES, SPEND MONIES FOR IMAGINARY GETAWAY

Just beat the main questline of Dishonored. It was quite a fun game, with loads and loads and loads of flavor. It was only around 20 hours of gameplay, but in that time the developers were able to flesh out a world far beyond only what is seen. The game-play was solid in my opinion, and the plot, while predictable, was still immersing.

It's discounted for the next 39 minutes or so for $10, but I could see a purchase of $30 at the original price being satisfying, especially if you're the type to go back through a game and make it more challenging by going completely non-violent/sneaky/murder everything. There aren't tons and tons of collectibles like other games where you can spend hours trying to get them, which is something I appreciate.

I must say that I'm definitely looking forward to a Dishonored 2 when Arkane gets around to it.

+1 for Dishonored. I found it immensely satisfying, the combat mechanics are great (I love seeing his left hand during combat), I love the stealth and the atmosphere, seeing the plague stricken city reminds me of fallout.

I just got a Steam account last night and have managed to snag copies of Everquest and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. All it cost me was $3.39 and about five hours of my time. I've got to say that I'm liking this newfangled iTunes-like service which lets me download video games and such. I'm thinking I might save up $20-$40 and purchase about half of my wishlist in a week or two.

Happy birthday!
...Itnetlolor's little brother!

That's probably just Steam being Steam.
Older brother, actually.

12 freaking hours were wasted just trying to get his gift (even at work on my cell phone), and I've been denied the entire time for the same exact reasons:

Quote
"'There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance.'
and
Quote
"An unexpected error has occurred. Your purchase has not been completed.

I think Steam got DDoS'd by some brats. Though my complaining is kinda making me sound like one of them. But I actually waited between errors in hopes that they would patch it up from time to time; not every waking second. Even low tide showed no service, and the same messages no matter what. That's why I conclude a DDoS.

EDIT:
I already also notified Support about it at least 6 hours ago, and no answer. I might have to keep an eye on regular sales then.

...You do realize Steam predates iTunes right?

Incorrect.

iTunes Initial Release: January 9, 2001

iTunes Store Launch: April 28, 2003
Steam Launch: September 12, 2003

But yes, calling an almost decade old service "new-fangled" is a bit funny :)

Steam's really that old?  God, I thought it had only come out 6-7 years ago, max.

OK, I have to reload the save.
There was a bit of a problem regarding flashfreezing, a ballistae, and a barrel of dwarven ale. Gonna fix it up.

Well that's what I get for asking Wikipedia to confirm what I thought I knew.

Yeah, I remember being on the edge of it when it came out (wasn't playing Valve games at that point) and wondering "Why are people freaking the fuck out so hard about this Steam thing not working so well and being the Great Satan of gaming?"

YOu need to factor in Valve time to the anniversary, most likely. :)

I think I got it to play TF2. That was about late 2007 almost 2008.

Are there any sites that will tell you your Steam purchasing history? I'd like to know what got me to install it.

I know exactly what got me started. Left 4 Dead. I bought a boxed copy of L4D only to install it through Steam. That was pretty much the end of my physical games collection.

Click the little arrow under your name at the top right of the Steam client. Go to Account Details, Store Transactions Tab. Even tracks your in-game and market transactions.
