So what's the deal here? Are games getting progressively worse in general or is the steam sale simply disappointing?

Personally, its the latter. The games themselves (some of them, anyway) are good, its just that they're things that people already have or don't want due to personal preference.

It's possible people have spent enough on Steam there's not a lot they don't own or that they want to own.

I'm getting a little tired of "oh the sale is shit this year." I've picked up at least 8 games for bottom dollar prices. I think the issue is less what's being offered and more what people on Bay12 are willing to buy. I hear a lot about "there's nothing I want" but very few mentions of what people actually want.

Sorry, but I've just seen way too many hipster-esqe posts about the quality of the sale this year.

If I might interpret: BigD145 is iriated that crap like WarZ is one of the deals of the day. It shouldn't be. We can all agreed that it shouldn't even be on Steam, but giving it advertising? Thats just wrong.

Never played a Diablo-esque game before, and about 20 minutes in, I realized what I had been missing.

Yeah, I was leery because I'd been playing the series since FATE and some of the more annoying things keep cropping up. But, it's cheap and I'll get my money's worth from a single playthrough if nothing else.

If it's going to be on Steam at all, Valve can't selectively decide to discriminate against the title because users don't like the developers.

They could selectively discriminate against it because they have a bad track record, though. Having to deal with the refunds costs Valve money.

Also, while I understand why a prerelease game doesn't show the Metacritic score I think that'd stop half the problem right there, sale, front page, or not.
