So I bought Wargame: AirLand Battle. I'm hoping it's good despite the abysmal name - anyone played?

It doesn't matter since you already bought it, but yes it's pretty good. Multiplayer is excellent and SP is decent.

Man. I got excited when The Secret World popped up on the daily deals. Shame it's barely a deal at all.

Rising Storm, Rising Storm, Rising Storm, Rising Storm, Rising Storm, Rising Storm, Rising Storm, Rising Storm, Rising Storm, Rising Storm, Rising Storm, Rising Storm, Rising Storm, Rising Storm, Rising Storm.

Did I mention I think it's a great game? It's a pretty realistic FPS that includes the original Red Orchestra 2, and adds the Japanese and US. The Japanese are a blast to play with their banzai charges, and there's some meta-levelling as well, allowing you access to light upgrades and stuff like that. It's pretty tactical, maps are fairly open, and overall it's just a great experience. A breath of fresh air, as far as FPSs are concerned! Definitely don't expect a counter-strike clone in WW2 :)

And another batch of games I could care less about. Rising Storm would be a purchase, but it's still a little highly priced for a gamble buy.

Jeez, it's awful this year.

Did you know that the US fought the Pacific War completely by themselves without assistance at all from any other nation? The US actually had to build a giant man-made island south of the Dutch East Indies because there are no land masses down there.
Video games and the history channel taught me that.

Digressing I've actually been interested in Red Orchestra 2 since it came out but I heard it was plagued with issues such as the FOV which is as narrow as a tunnel-tube. Has Rising Storm fixed the majority of the problems that people had with RO2 or is it still around the same? What's the server population looking like these days particularly in Oceania (if anyone knows)?

Best use of sarcasm I've seen for a long time, love it!

Did you know the US also won all other theatres of World War Two by themselves, too? Literally no other nation lifted a finger, and thus there are no other stories to tell other than American ones!

The FOV as far as I know can get cranked up to 85 now. Server pop per region is probably the game's one and only outstanding problem.

I've played both in the US and in Europe and at least in both of those there are usually quite a few full 64 player servers. Plus, the problem isn't gonna fix itself ;)

FOV can be changed quite a bit ever since I can remember in RO2 - Rising Storm is no exception :)

The game (CK2) is like a simulation that has been filtered through a machine. If you want a simulation you aren't going to have one, if you want a strategy game it isn't here either. It is somewhere between those two concepts.

Or, maybe you could look at the fact that Paradox has somehow survived fifteen years on the strength of extremely complicated, deep strategy games that someone must be buying and enjoying; or closer to home you might find a nearly 3 year old, 77 page highly active CK2 thread that is pretty solid evidence that quite a few B12'rs have 'found a strategy game they wanted here'.

That said, its a Paradox game.  Dense awkward UI, fairly steep learning curves, extremely deep strategy that can be a bit tough to wade into at first, player-oriented goal setting, lots of mods and DLC content for extended play, abstracted army combat (its not Total War).  I loved it, got many hours out of it, will very likely play it again, but its one I'd hesitate to recommend to just any friend.  Fans of DF are likely to have the right game genetics to enjoy it, I think.

I've been looking slightly in the direction of Dust: An Elysian Tail, mostly because the art looked vaguely interesting. Does anyone have an opinion on the actual game?

I feel ya, man. All those feels you're having? I'm feeling those feels.

Tempted to jump on Rogue Legacy, since it probably wont go down.

There is a lengthy discussion of it in it's own thread. If I recall it's predominantly a positive opinion.
