Picked up FTL (finally), the Overlord bundle, Witcher 2, and Kinetic Void. I'm particularly interested in the last, given what it promises. All that for something like $14, too. I've got $86 more just waiting for juicy deals. :D

I am very tempted to pick up RPG Maker VX, down from £49.99 to £16.99....

Though I'm not sure I have the patience to make my own games with it, and I think it'd likely ruin the play through if I know all possible outcomes!

And Stardrive as well?! Goddammit Steam, how much money will you take from me?

stuff and words
words and stuff

Thanks for the responses. I usually check up on DRM first, but managed to not do so this time.

Good news time: I think there was one final patch released that removed the DRM. The Steam pack also contains three more games than the GamersGate pack. That makes it 3 games for $6 or 6 games for $12.

That was pretty much my reaction - all of the add-on packs are down by 66% too!

I'd love to, I'm just not sure I have the patience for it, and I'm more a player than a maker... ;D

Yeah, I see that. Shame there's no way I can afford all of them. Even on sale some of those add-ons are $10 :/

SO, apparently you can get some of these cards by playing select games?  Does anybody have any idea what you have to actually do in-game (achievements? Play-time?) to get them? I'd like to get some of the cards for games I already own...

Ooh, hadn't even noticed RPGMaker VX Ace up there. Yoink!

e: Oh, and you get one card for every $10 you spend during the sale.

Start game. Start more games. Go do something else. You will get some number of cards after anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 hour. Yes, it's that stupid.

So all I need to do is start every game I own which has cards and alt+f4 in the loading screen every hour or so and I'll get a shit ton of cards?

You get the cards whether or not you are in game, the game just has to be active on steam (ie green window around you potentially nonexistent avatar). And you can just go to your badges screen to check how many cards you can get.

Remember the good ol' days when badges required achievements that required effort to gain? At least you earned things, and it was fun while at it; not tedious.

I wish they brought that back to these sales. Or at least, make the trading cards useful like for a Steam-based game of Magic, Star Wars CCG, or Yu-Gi-Oh. Make them at least feel like they're worth more than a cosmetic bonus (which is rather superficial and pointless).

One example, defeating a horde of L4D zombies with Crazy Earl trap cards that allow you to mass-summon Plants Vs. Zombies plants as a defensive line. Being that they're plants with a natural bonus against zombies, the L4D hordes being undead don't stand a chance.

Like, "Finished Chapter One of a storyline required to advance in the game" or "Open Door" or "Finished Tutorial". Yeah I remember those days.

I was talking more along the lines of A+ Hard Mode Hell in Super Meat Boy kind of stuff. The kinds of things more worthy of a bragging right that takes actual skill to gain.

EDIT:
Actually, I think it was more like have a total sum of 300 seconds spent in Hell (easy and hard mode versions) to gain the achievement. It was difficult, but damn satisfying to obtain. Made that treasure hat in my inventory have the sentimental pride value that I earned that through my skills; and not from being a Facebook socialite (which takes virtually no skill, and requires your soul sold to them, which ironically takes no skill either to do; however, to leave Facebook may require a blood sacrifice, and/or a full submission to an oath of fealty to the NSA).

Reminder that this is the Steam Sales thread, not Steam Trading Cards thread.
In compatible games, you get a limited number of cards from play time. For example, getting one per half hour to a maximum of four. Those cards are completely random picks from that game's set; they could even all be the same card.
The Steam Summer Sale has a different set of cards, which can be earned by spending money during the sale, voting on game sales, and maybe other things. Again, completely random cards from the Summer Sale set.
So all I need to do is start every game I own which has cards and alt+f4 in the loading screen every hour or so and I'll get a shit ton of cards?
Just let it sit until its card page says you've achieved the maximum number of card drops. Might have to exit the game to actually get the cards. But there is a limit per game - a pretty small one usually.

Everyone vote Antichamber. I suspect some votes are just whatever the cheapest game is in the list of three and people are trying to spend as little money as possible to get badges. Antichamber deserves a bump in sales.
