I heard from various people that the PC port of Dark Souls was among the worst ever. What's your take on it?
I can't believe I forgot about how shitty the port is. It's pretty bad, but even so, once you get past the
absolute-utter-bullshit Games For Windows Live client, (For some people it was easy to set up, for others, including me, it was a pain) the game works.
There's a mod/community patch out there that helps improve the resolution and quality, I believe, because the resolution on textures isn't top-notch, but this is more of a minor problem, but still points towards a bad port.
The game is also
very very difficult to play without using a gamepad, (For me, this was relatively simple enough, I have a pair of old wired X-box 360 controllers I just plugged into the USB port on my PC.) and it's
very highly recommended you get one or find one from your old Xbox setup.
There are quite a few problems, actually, but I will not stress enough how fun the game is when you get past all of the crap. It's a bad port, but an absolutely phenomenal game. But of course, it depends on whether or not it's your type of game, and whether or not you want to wade through the G4WL crap beforehand.
One tip for anyone thinking about buying: I don't know if they've fixed this yet, but STEAM DOWNLOADS THE WRONG G4WL VERSION. You'll want to get the newer, updated version from the Microsoft website, I believe, instead of letting Steam install it for you.
And for anyone interested, here's the graphics mod I was talking about:
