I have one. It's generally easier to use gog for obscure old games than to pirate them. Pretty cheap too.

Is Neverwinter Nights 2 any good? I remember playing a bit of it back when it was released and absolutely hating it, but it also barely ran on that computer. And the story opened with one of my most loathed cliche openings (the doomed hometown). I may not have given it a fair chance.

It's... Reasonable I guess. The Mask of the Betrayer expansion does have a much better story (check the let's play in the LParchive, it's quite good), while the storm of Zehir is rather sandboxy with less story. The mechanics of the game are decent enough, but nothing really to write home about.

Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate have been fully redone in NWN 2 which might tempt some people to get it. I much prefer the original games and the remakes just don't feel as good with the 3.5 ruleset. 3D environments are pretty though.

Hmm, I hadn't seen this modules yet. I'll have to grab them later. Can we have a link?

The interface of NWN2 didn't feel quite right after NWN1. I always felt I couldn't see enough. The camera seemed stiff and unyielding.

I can't speak of the expansions but the base game is one of the worst rpgs I've ever played. The writing was atrocious.

The writing was pretty terrible. In terms of gameplay I felt like NWN1 simply was more fun to play too.

Really? I thought the NWN2 base campaign was decent - it certainly wasn't going to win awards for amazing writing, but it wasn't atrocious. Now, the NWN1 base campaign, that was dreadful.

Comparing NWN2 base campaign to NWN1, NWN2 was Oscar Award Winning. Definitely doesn't compare to games such as, say, Bioshock or Portal, but it wasn't really bad. It was one of the few campaigns I actually played all the way through, and it's rare for me to finish a game. There's a few engaging and fun parts if you can overlook some of the wonky and ham fisted story elements.

NWN2's multiplayer is pretty pathetic, though. You have to manually download some of the server's data every time it gets updated, and you can't download it automatically in-game. NWN1 is much better for multiplayer.

The main reason to get NWN2 is for the main campaigns (The expansion pack campaign is better than the main one) and modules. They are, for the most part, pretty good.

NWN2 also has a pretty unusable editor, if you're into making modules. It's like they took everything that was user-friendly of NWN1's Aurora, throw it out the window, and installed AutoCAD instead (with an extra dose of crash-to-desktop).

Sure, NWN1 had a lot of tile repetition but it was noob friendly.

NWN2's companions will make you feel like murdering someone, starting with that idiot Sorcerer girl, that Dwarf for thinking her insults are awesome, that thief for being so freakin' Perky, and everyone else for not killing them on sight.

Different strokes I guess. For me it was the opposite. I played through the original's campaign but couldn't stand the second's. It felt like it was written by a fourteen year old fanfic writer.

I thought that NWN 1's story was mediocre, at best. The game was saved, for me at least, by the huge number of modules, some of which were miles above the base game in writing and game play. It sounds like 2 isn't really worth the time, though.

To me the best part of the game was actually the start of the game. Everything after the city chapter is just a slog.

Ok I will admit some of the most interesting things happen after the city, but overall the city is the best part.
