The atmosphere is probably a big part of it too. I wasn't immersed by it - it's not that realistic due to obvious game aspects/limitations. But the setting is really interesting. Even the plants and background past the fences and all of that are interesting to look at. It's less like most free-roam RPGs and more like watching the character go around these places killing monsters, talking to people, etc. With you still getting your say, of course.

Anyone who fully dislikes quick time events should try Asura's Wrath - PS3 or Xbox360.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Not only does it do QTEs quite well (being a core part of gameplay but with few instant-death punishments for failure, instead usually lowering your score and/or health), it's also gloriously meta.

WarZ is on sale for 75% off. It's not even worth that. Buy it if you want to properly hate it.

Kerbal Space Program is 33% off till Monday. Not sure if it'll go lover than that. It's early access after all.

Witcher 2 is 66% off. No comment on that.

Holy crap. Lateral thinking is half the game.

Try it while drunk, and/or under the influence of other things for a more thorough mindfuck of an experience. (Worth it)

It's not steam, but gamersgate has Dominions 3 on sale for 7.49$. It's probably one of the best turn based strategy games I've ever played.

Nnn, also not on Steam but... I don't want to resurrect a 6 month old thread for it.

Good Old Games is having a summer sale at the moment. You can get the entire selection of Baldur's Gate 1 + 2, Icewind Dale 1 + 2, Neverwinter Nights 1 + 2 as well as Planescape Torment and two others called Dragon Shard and Demon Stone for $21.10.

Oh, also, if you have a GOG account you can get a free copy of Torchlight 1. This lasts for 48 hours.

Perhaps I need a GoG account after all.
