I don't think so. At least, I don't recall having them until I got the DLC, then they were available from the penthouse. I could be wrong though.

There is a hoverbike in the base game. It's of the same line as the white tank and VTOL jet thingy. Though they don't become available until a ways into the main story.

One of the latter episodes lets you unlock 2 of 3 between an improved sci-fi tank, a hoverbike (VTOL bike actually) and some satchel charges. Just like you unlock faction cars by defeating them or the VTOL by completing the appropriate mission. Hoverbike is pretty much a given, and chances are neither the charges or the tank are very useful (you already have the basic tank so it's not a huge improvement), so it's a coin toss basically.

The "Unlockables" pack gives you ALL mission unlockables, for free, from the start (and ALL 3 of the mentioned above simultaneously). And there are a bunch of themed hoverbikes/other vehicles in other packs, like, I don't know... a black and purple one, maybe? Not sure.

I've got all the DLCs I was missing, but if there are some you don't really need are mostly extra clothing / special vehicle paintjobs.

So is SR3 basically GTA with abso-surdo-ridic levels of ridiculousness? I think I might get it.

So apparently I own it already (probably got it in some developer bundle at some point). But I don't have any DLC. I don't want to re-buy the main game with The Full Package pack, so anyone have recommendations for specific DLC? The season pass, I presume, since that adds content, but any others?

The one with the Mr. Genki missions is worth it. The rest? It's basically overkill in a game where you can already kill anything and everything twelve different ways. Unless you really crave the extra costumes, vehicles and weapons, they're not worth the price. Shooting guys with the mind control launcher is fun....but again that's in the context of a mostly sandbox game that wasn't hard in the first place.

Are you sure you already own it? There's a free weekend on. (Or did you get it in the THQ bundle?)

The Money Shot pack has an Ultor-themed jetbike, an Ultor "tactical catsuit," and a sniper rifle. I liked that one. The explosive combat pack has a grenade launcher (but I think the rocket launcher is better anyways) and an outfit (which I don't particularly care for myself).

There are other outfits in the other packs as well. The unlockable pack sounds kind of pointless, and I wouldn't get the invincible pack either (you don't need it for anything and it just makes the game boring if you buy its perks in-game, activating them forever (or until you start over)).

The other packs are pretty much down to choice. An important factor is that the custom vehicles from the packs can't be tuned up (to enhance their functioning, durability, etc) or customized in the auto shops in-game, so they're inferior to any normal vehicle. This does not count for airplanes and helicopters, however, as they can't be customized in the first place, and some of the vehicles have special abilities, like in the Genki Girl Pack.

SR3 is a game you should endeavor to make as hard as possible for yourself while playing. That was my only one true gripe about it, is that 50% of the way through the game just kind of loses its context and becomes truly mindless, because you've bought all the upgrades and are functionally invincible, so nothing: missions, money, upgrades, gunfights.....truly matters anymore. There's no real penalty for dying either.

In fact, the game might be the most fun never buying upgrades at all.

Trouble with Clones, and Gangstas in Space offer extra missions. They're a bit short but more than just costumes.

I'd recommend picking up the Season Pass if you enjoy the base game. The Genki pack includes a whole bunch of new activities, while the other two packs add new mission arcs - I think it's 3 missions each, but some of them (especially the clone ones) are longer and often more challenging than the main story. And you get a couple of costumes as a bonus!

The rest of the DLC is kinda... meh. The weapons are amusing, but mostly you'll use them once before returning to your standard guns. And you can only wear a couple of costume pieces at a time (a big step backward from SR2, I'd like to point out).

Agreed. My co-op friend and I essentially made a pact to avoid all of the cheaty upgrades for our second batch of characters.
All of the damage resistance upgrades are to be avoided (except fall damage, since that's entirely fun and rarely comes up in combat anyway). These are the biggest ones. You could get everything else and still have a bit of a challenging time so long as you avoid these upgrades.

If it says infinite (or instant) anything, it's to be avoided, for added difficulty.

So far I haven't gotten any of the health upgrades either. Maybe we'll try to avoid those too.

Most everything leftover doesn't have much bearing on the difficulty of the game, except maybe notoriety decay. I never bought those on either of my characters anyway, never felt like it mattered much when you can just duck into somewhere you own.

I'm currently downloading Civ V to test it out for the free weekend (it's gonna take ages to download though). If you buy it before Monday, you get 75% off, so this is a nice opportunity to test it out and get it for cheap, if it proves to be something I like... My question to all of you is, what is the game like? Keeping in mind that I had no plans to buy this game before the sale (good job marketing, Steam!), I don't have a whole lot of time for gaming these days, and I don't generally play strategy games, but I did enjoy Civ IV for a while, is this likely to be worth buying? Is it really heavily focused on combat and war, or is it possible to really play and enjoy and succeed at the game in other ways? (I seem to recall destroying every other civilization being the primary way of succeeding at the game in previous incarnations - if you don't, they end up spending all their energy trying to destroy you later in the game.)

It certainly looks pretty, anyway. I'll see how my trial run goes, but I'm interested in you guys' opinions as well.

I preferred 4 over 5 by a fairly long margin, although I played 5 before any of the DLCs (which would both cost $50 if they weren't on sale (and the most recent one is still $45 (in Australia))) were released so it might have become better. My main complaints (note that I haven't played 5 in a very long time, so my memory might be a bit wrong) were how difficult it was to take down cities (IMO a city's defense should be from what you've garrisoned inside it, it shouldn't be as strong as 3-5 units by itself), diplomacy being made quite simplistic compared to 4 (IIRC you aren't even shown what's effecting your relationships), and lack of mods (which is only partially the fault of the game itself, although I hear they didn't exactly make it easy for modders to do anything they wanted). I did like that it tried out hexes (IMO better than square tiles) and only having one unit per tile (probably a change I don't want to see in further Civs, since it means you can't have armies as large as in the previous games just from lack of space, although either making it a higher limit (5-10/tile?) or making each tile represent a much smaller amount of land, splitting each hex into 6 (for example, and this is probably the only number to work well without being needlessly complicated) for movement while keeping cities the same (so they would operate on the groups of 6 hexes). Maybe bring back something like the zone of control system in the older games too, so if you have a long front with units on each tile the enemy needs to break at least 3 of them to advance into your territory. Enough rambling, good thing it has a demo, if only 4 had one too so people who haven't played Civ before at all could examine each one to see which they preferred.

Of note is that the rest of the Civilization series is also on sale. If someone ends up buying 4 as part of not the complete edition (I have no idea why anyone would do that, since it's the cost of 4 and the important expansion, but not only gives you those but also the spinoff game and the other expansion) then don't get Warlords, since everything that's in that is included in Beyond the Sword, except for 6ish mediocre scenarios (and support for mods built for Warlords, but most of them a for BtS anyway). But buy the complete edition while it's on sale if you want anything to do with Civ 4.

One of Towns devs, Burningpet, is a regular on our forums. The game is pretty good. It's like Majesty meets DF but it's very unique in it's scope and features. It's still in development and has a lot of gameplay. Much like DF the UI/controls have a bit of a learning curve. For $7.49 it's pretty great. I recommend watching an LP from another forum regular here, Christonian.
