World of tanks isn't bad either now that they sell gold ammo for credits, that removed the primary pay to win mechanic of the game.

So, it seems there was a mistake in Rome 2's price, briefly.  It was down at 30 pounds, but then when I switched the location to the US (because I'm only here in the UK till the end of the month) it was back up to the normal price on both locations.  Oh well...

I wouldn't worry, it'll be on sale for that or lower on release day at any number of sites. Games are almost always overpriced for release on Steam, and then other people have the sense to charge normal/realistic prices.

Warframe? Really? Warframe was so boring, and based entirely on skinner boxes, with such an annoying interface (at the time I tried it, at any rate - I have not reinstalled it because the experience was a complete waste of time and there's no reason to expect the paradigm underlying the game design to change drastically) that I couldn't stand it for more than a couple hours.

Path of Exile I have kept installed so far, but I didn't play all that far into it before losing interest. (Diablo-like-games never were that interesting to me)
World of Tanks was boring too. League of Legends? Community is too rigid and confining to your tactics, doesn't like if you want to try new things, too much pressure to do perfectly every game, expectation to know and understand every champion intimately, etc.

The only MMO I've really enjoyed (after UO) has been Star Trek Online after it went free-to-play. Neverwinter seems semi-fun, but I don't know. I don't like the way the auction house works. People are making some interesting quests in the Foundry, though.

How does STO work, Shadow?

Personally, I ignore the stuff in their zen store. Some of it does give anyone who buys it an advantage, but most of STO is PVE, so unless you're doing PVP it doesn't matter too much. Some of it expands your inventory space or bank space or the like, but that's stuff that you don't necessarily need.

You get can get zen from a zen <-> dilithium exchange where other people sell zen for dilithium. You get dilithium from a bunch of different in-game missions. I've never gotten a meaningful amount from them because I mostly ignore those missions, but you could farm a substantial amount on a daily basis if you wanted to waste the time doing the daily missions which give you dilithium. However, some vendors in-game sell items for dilithium, some of which are needed for certain activities like crafting (which is called research and development).

There are also lockboxes that are randomly dropped by enemies, to open them you need to buy a key - like TF2's lockboxes, only it's much rarer to get the rare spaceship in them than to get something useful out of a TF2 lockbox. Some people waste a ton of money opening them, so they can be sold for a small amount of energy credits on the exchange (ones which aren't being dropped at the time sell for more). (I consider opening lockboxes to be equivalent to gambling away your real money, and you're really just wasting it unless you like the idea of paying several hundred dollars for a spaceship)

That said, most things that are in lockboxes or sold for dilithium are re-sold on the exchange, for energy credits (the standard currency which you get by selling things), and if the price is within your reach you can buy them on the exchange. You can also list items you've found on the exchange where other players can buy them, instead of trying to sell them to a vendor or recycling them. Usually you get more money on the exchange, but some kinds of items don't sell (such as most hand weapons). Others sell for many times what is listed when you look at the item (so you need to do a search on the exchange to see what price the market is currently at for that item). Neverwinter uses a different exchange/market system, which is auction based (I assume they haven't changed it since I last played a week or two ago).)

Side note: Energy credit balance is normally capped at 10 million ec unless you have subscribed or something. It's possible to raise it (spending (500?) zen to do so) to 1 billion. Some items - such as the ships from lockboxes - sell for more than 10 million ec on the exchange. It is not difficult to eventually reach that cap by selling things on the exchange that you get just through playing STO normally, and to then buy purple equipment for your ship. (There are also STFs, though I have not done any)

Well #1, it's better with friends. It's a pretty dreary singleplayer/online game with random players. #2, it's a FPS diablo-esqe game, something you said you don't like. It's not amazing, but it's fun enough for a F2P. Fun enough I got about 10 people to start playing it, who are still playing it after a few weeks.

In truth the appeal of the game is that it plays fast and combats get pretty insane with 4 people.

So different strokes for different folks. Then again, you've basically poo-pooed every F2P game mentioned. Everything is "boring" and "stupid." A very balanced opinion you have there.

Warframe can be pretty amazing once you understand the parkour system and combo moves.

Well, if you name only things that I don't like... :P

I enjoy games that have plot, especially plot you can affect by saying or doing different things. Some people enjoy games that omit plot entirely or have only a thin veneer of a plot, or have combat for hours interspersed with cutscenes. That's not as interesting to me (I like 4x games, if the mechanics are interesting and the game has character, though).

P.S. Gunpoint is awesome.

Edit: Having played both Gunz (and given up on it because it was riddled with people abusing hacks/cheats despite PunkBuster) and especially WET, I was not impressed by the parkour system in Warframe, what little of it I could figure out (as there was no tutorial or in-game help to explain it at all).

Right, like I said, you named everything f2p games don't do. They generally don't do plots, dialog options ala normal RPGs, character choice changing the world, or 4x simulations.

The parkour in Warframe is 100% unnecessary to gameplay. As is aiming down sights while jumping and going into John Wu lunge. That said, most of what's in game is there because of the rule of cool.

As for whether it will change, the basis of the game: running missions repeatedly for credits and mods, won't change. The end game, boss battles, game modes and the like I expect to continue to grow as the game does.

If it's not your cup of tea, that's fine. What I guess I disagree with is the "pssshh, THAT game?" attitude. I kind of thought we were above that around here, even for games we don't personally like.

If someone wants to buy all the silly DLC for Saints Row The 3rd, now is the time, at 75% off.

Finally, I can buy the giant shark weapon that eats people. And a TRON dildo chainsaw. Or something...

EDIT: Make sure the DLC you're getting isn't already in a pack. For example the Tricks & Treats pack is 0.99 and includes 3 DLC worth 0.74 each.

If you don't have Saints Row the Third at all, you can get The Full Package (it's $12.49 instead of $9.99, so only $2.50 more). That's a far better value than buying individual DLC packs.
