Thinking about trying the Deus Ex series, because stuff is on sale.  Do you recommend getting Invisible War and the original, or just Human Revolutions?  The former two don't have a price cut, but they're at $7, so I'm not quite sure if I should buy now or wait.

Word is that Invisible War is a terrible game and should be avoided for worry of spoiling memories of the first.

The original Deus Ex is definitely worth its price for me, and I haven't even finished it yet. Don't know if HR is better, though.

Original DE is very good, even thou it is severely outdated.  I would VERY much recomend getting that first, and then getting Human Revolution.  Haven't played Invisible War.

Human Revolutions often gets favorably compared to Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines as an RPG. There's a lot of quests and things to find if you dig into each area thoroughly enough.

Hmmm, okay.  I loved Bloodlines, so maybe I'll just splurge and get all of them at once.  Thanks, dudes!

Both the original, and HR are worth getting, if only for the amount of ways you can complete objectives in.
The problem with HR, though, is that bossfights are unavoidable combat encounters, and with some characters just feel silly (100% ghost pacifist gets sneak-closelined by the XXX boss, anyone?)

With this being said, both have disappointing parts, and don't let the "Gaming is dead" old geezers fool you about first DE.
The biggest decision you could make during the game, is made for you. The entire branch following the alternative was cut out. Both are still on rails.

Feh, I'm a Final Fantasy fan.  I'm not scared of rails as long as the story's interesting.

Thanks for the data, though.

They are still fun, don't get me wrong!

Oh, one more thing : Don't go combat heavy in HR. Combat is extremely easy. It features the cover system, which translates to absolute bloodbaths of enemies, every time, no health lost. Sneaking is the better way.

Human Revolution is an odd game. I don't have the best computer, so I turn everything all the way down or off in most games. HR, however, kept booting me to desktop unless AA was on.

Not really trying to start a discussion on it, just warning potential buyers. It's a well-known issue.

My only gripe with HR is the XP system.

There's like, a mental check box for XP in game. At the lowest is straight combat and killing people. Then hacking every terminal. Then finding every ventilation shaft shortcut/secret. Then non-lethal takedowns on every dude.

I couldn't let myself complete a level unless I got it perfect and got all the possible xp. Unfortunately, that can make each area take an hour or more. It kind of became a compulsion, and I wasn't a fan of how I felt "pushed" into non-lethal by dint of the game mechanics, the XP I would miss.

That said, it was a choice to never miss XP, so someone less obsessive might not see it as a problem.

Oooh, thanks for the obsession-warning D:

In any case, I bought the stuff, but I wouldn't worry about all that, since I was only looking for a stealthy-ish game with a good story anyhow.

Stealth is the more fun way to play anyway.
The XP system is pretty much trying to push you to the fun bits while dusting over the not-fun bits as you being incompetent.
