Trying to play GTA4 for half an hour before it either suffers technicolor kaleidoscopic screen tearing or 12fps gets annoying real fast. Just Cause 2 now plays longer, but will still end up at least black screening with sound eventually.

The technicolor kaleidoscopic screen tearing sounds a bit like a graphics card beginning to fail. (possibly releated to heat build up during the half hour leading up to it)

the story is garbage.

but the game play and atmosphere are fantastic.

That perfectly sums up why I love JC2. The gameplay is superb, the world is massive, the visuals are stunning, the plot is completely ignorable (literally, you only need to do two short tutorial missions and then can never touch it again), and the dialogue doesn't even need MST3K to be hilarious.

i agree completely. i just wish my computer could run it.
i bought it a couple months ago for my pc.

so for now i guess ill stick to my Xbox version off it.

I watched the temps. It stayed around 60C or less. The card was bought this year.

I'm with Vactor. That sounds almost 100% like a failing (or already failed) graphics card.

If you only bought it recently, you can probably get it replaced by the company.

There is one problem with that. I broke a couple fan blades on the cooler, the company would not sell me a stock fan, and I replaced it myself with an equivalent fan. They won't touch it and I can't afford to replace it. The thing is, other faults like the screen just going black and then coming back up in "slideshow mode" with vastly reduced fps is the more common error and I did have the driver failure popup a few times before it disappeared. It's common with the latest couple released drivers. I went hunting for solutions and easily found a hundred people in different forums for different games with this same problem on different hardware.

While I don't necessarily expect a non-factory cooler to cause issues like that....I wouldn't try to trouble shoot your problems with a 10 foot poll, not with a qualifier like that. How did you manage to snap blades off the fan in the first place?

Well, I bought Guns of Icarus and it's pretty awesome. No one likes to pilot for some reason.

On the other, super-huge-awesome guns.
