Guys.

What game, $10 or less, MUST I have that will run on a standard issue netbook?

No Source games will work.

A significant portion of pixel shader 2.0 games will not work.

On a netbook? I'd say you're straining to run Pong..

Hah, no. I can, for example, run Terraria, Starscape and Morrowind very smoothly.

Oblivion runs with Oldblivion, at half framerate.

Don't be unfair. Check older games (although it'd probably be easier to get at GoG) and the lighter indie games.

SpaceChem for 5.

Try the demo to see if it works though.

Anything 2006-era or 2007-era style in terms of graphics is fine. Graphics is the only big problem. It's what keeps me from running Source games. My ENTIRE REASON for wanting a new computer (Which is my entire reason for wanting a job, which I've been relentlessly searching for for well over a year) is to have it play games using newer tech.

I didn't like its predecessors at all. Not my type of game.

Also, Braid. It's 2.50 USD right now. Check the Demo and buy it.

Inexplicably, Braid's rendering makes me bluescreen, every time.

Most games are nice enough to tell me I'm not compatible.

Stubbs the Zombie came out thenabouts, and it's 2.49 right now (75% off). There is also a demo. It's kind of like grand theft auto, except instead of stealing cars you eat brains. It might run on low graphics settings.

I've had a netbook before. Their processors are fairly good, and their wi-fi cards are batshit crazy good, but they've almost no graphics card to speak of.

This perfectly describes my netbook.

However, its graphics are still better than a fair portion of netbooks i've worked with in the past. GMA945 series, this one.

Stubbs sounds fun but I'm not into the zombies. On the other hand, if my price range was higher, I'd be getting this.

You might want to get a better netbook. There are quite a few with damn fine graphic cards. I find the processor to be the biggest hindrance, but I tend to grab games with beefy AI's.

Oh, nope. Not getting another netbook. And getting another computer is just a no-go indefinitely until I get hired by someone, anyone. Gotta keep searching.

The problem is, for the price netbooks with decent graphics cards go for, you could easily get a higher quality regular sized laptop. Or you could build a really killer desktop.
