Presumably these are legal issues that they're not too keen on sanitising since that'd reduce their sales ;)

Want a real SimCity? GOG has SimCity4 Deluxe for $4.99 US. It's just a 3 day sale. Then it goes to $20. I think you can still get boxed copies cheaper than $20.

Steam sells Enemy unknown with all the DLCs for 15 euro.
It kinda annoys me since i already blew too much money on games this month and would want to get it anyway.

Steam pisses me off as usual.

Steam has sales and no returns or price adjustments, as always.

Covert Action is on sale on GoG... it's a really old game about trying to defuse terrorist situations by being a spy. Every time I pick it up again, I still get a little addicted. If you don't mind old games, definitely give it a whirl!

Ditto for Sword of the Samurai!

Yes. Buy it. Play it. Enjoy it. It's kinda a precursor to the 'procedurally generated gameplay' thing, like FTL, so while it's built of pretty predictable patterns after you play a while, but it's still has a ton of replayability.

You don't need to emulate it? Only as far as I'm aware you do.

GOG takes care of that. You just run it through their executable and it sets up all the things you need for you.

He didn't say anything about that.  Covert Action is a DOS-era game, so it's bundled with DOSbox... this is standard for GOG.

I love Covert Action. For some reason I really like the case-by-case generation and world-building that goes on and how masterminds appear until you have caught them. For me it's like the ultimate James Bond simulator.

I think that it should really have a remake, but one that stays true to the roots. If I'd know how, I would do it.

It would just need a modern control scheme (as in, mouse+keyboard support, not press X to win) and updated graphics.

The character could also move more smoothly during the combat minigames and I have never understood the damn driving minigame :P

Oh, well, yeah, the driving minigame was kind of not very intuitive. The other three were cool, though. I kinda liked the movement, it was slower and promoted cover interestingly much for such an old game.

Interestingly there's a sale on "Rise of Nations: Extended Edition" on Steam at the moment.

"Rise of Nations" is a real time strategy game that came out around 2003. I personally preferred it over "Empire Earth", as they're quite similar in theme, due to its similarities with "Age of Empires" as well as units come in groups of three for things like archers and infantry.

Anyway. Appears like they're planning for an updated release around June this year. Anti-aliasing, improved textures and water, steam integration etc. The sale puts it on $16 USD down from $20 USD, not much but it does include the expansion "Thrones and Patriots".

Also there's a sale on "Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition". This is no doubt due to their recent dropping of "Games for Windows Live" which is closing soon.

Only issue with this is I don't know how they're dealing with the new version of Street Fighter IV that's coming out. I think it's going to be a free upgrade for those who already own "Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition" but I haven't checked that detail since about mid last year.
