The ship is 80% off, the server lists are bugged and the people who currently own it don't have the rights to change the code so you have to get the ip addresses from another place like here http://www.gameserverdirectory.com/search/the-ship/.

Or you can go to view->servers menu and launch from there.

wow, there are a lot more people playing now, than from a few months ago.

Yeah, they're having some problem.

The stats page shows a big spike downward.

And it shows a similar problem yesterday.  Though not as bad.

(What's a downward spike called, anyway?  'Trough' doesn't emphasize the sudden drop.)
Looking at the graph, it looks to be similar to what is, on IRC servers, called a "netsplit". Somewhere, somehow, a node in the overall network connecting the users to the server gives out, and it takes time for it to get back up, or for the connections to be rerouted as the users try to reconnect.

Fissure would work.

It felt like an MMO with the multiplayer cut out. I got to the open world bit and quit, so I may not be the best source of advice.
I believe it WAS actually developed to be an MMO at first but had a direction change at some point in development. At least I recall reading that. Somewhere.

The Wikipedia article confused me when it mentioned single-player quests as DLC.

Anyway, it's pretty fun so far. Needs an EA account, but you don't need Origin installed.

So it's still going to die a horrible death in the future? Good to know. Stock up on a crcked version ahead of time.

What? Origin is not going anywhere as far as I know (which is sad because I prefer steam)

You're probably thinking of GFWL?

Nnnnnope. EA drops servers for specific games when they feel it is necessary (N% of overall EA network usage). Sometimes it is only a regional server that gets the axe. It is not Origin dependent, so you can buy a game on Origin that no longer has its game specific servers.

Screw Origin. I need to free up some HDD space yesterday, and when I launched Origin some games needed to download updates. I paused them since I didn't have the HDD space to download them....and when I restarted the download, Origin just refused to do it. Even after restarting, rebooting my PC, Origin still had a hold on the file download and simply wouldn't restart it.

So I ended up uninstalling both. Fuck Origin.

....but it's a single player game so that does not apply. AFAIK they've only ever turned off the multiplayer/matchmaking servers, not the authentication servers. It's probably the same authentication servers for all games so they likely never will unless they totally shut down origin.

Unless we're talking about a different game? I'm talking about KoA.

Guys, you don't need an EA account to play Amalur. It says "you must sign in to access online features". I've played for two and a half hours so far without an EA account, haven't encountered any limitations.

Also, it's fun. It holds your hand for a little too long, in my opinion, and the story is pretty 'traditional,' but the world feels pretty unique and interesting. Combat is MUCH more dynamic than most RPGs in the style. Mobs don't take much skill individually due to stun-locking, but they're pretty intelligent, and when you encounter groups of three or more you'll have to pay at least a little attention. Overall- I've been waiting for this to go on sale since it came out, and it seems to be worth it. However, so far I don't feel like I would want to pay full price for it, so if you're on the fence I would advise you to just go for it at $6.

I'm having fun with it too.  No need for origin.

I played it until about halfway through the second arc. After that I put it down simply because I got tired of the fetch quests.

The best description for it really is singleplayer WoW, except with more entertaining combat.

Daily Sale is Mirror's Edge. I highly recommend it, as it is both very fun gameplay-wise and incredibly impressive aesthetically. And not in the 'Look at our beautifully rendered mud!' way.
