Another World showed up on the overnight flash sale.  I have good memories of it from twenty years ago.  The author's a mad genius.  A year or so ago I read a nice article about reverse engineering the game code.  The game originally fit on a 1.44MB floppy.  The executable was only 20KB!

US$2.49 to get a hires version.  I think I'll bite that hook.

I dunno. I bought it during the last big sale and was not terribly impressed. It seems excessively buggy (during one part, the only way I was able to survive was by positioning myself so that my laser gun was on the other side of an energy field and rapid-firing until the bad guys actually became hitable) and doesn't run nearly as well as one would expect.

That's interesting.  It ought to play exactly like every other port, since the only thing that changes is the bytecode interpreter, the actual game data is the same.  (Exception: hand-drawn backgrounds were added to the hires version.)

Ys I + II are on flash sale. I do enjoy Origins and Oath in Felghana, would I enjoy these offerings?

... maybe, ah. Sample. Coughemulationcough. Quick like? See if you like the originals? I think the remakes are prettier, but the gameplay is 90-95% identical. I've never played Origins or Oath, I think, so no clue how those stack up. You'd be looking at 80s-90s style Ys gameplay, though, so... depends on if you like the old Ys games, heh.

Gar. So Company of Heroes 2 was up for voting a couple of days ago for community choice. Going up against Arma III, I knew it wasn't going to win, and it didn't. So I went ahead and bought it.

Now I see it up on the daily sale for the exact value it would have gone for as a community choice.

I mean, I get the gamification thing. But now I feel kinda like I'm being gamed by Steam. A lot of these sales feel really arbitrary in pricing. I've been watching CoH 2 since it released waiting for the price point I wanted. If games are going to be 33% off the whole sale, then randomly jump up to 66% whether by community choice or fiat, I feel like I want that info somewhere in a chart so I don't waste money or time combing through Steam deals only to get one-upped the next day.

It has been like that for their other sales as well. A good rule of thumb to follow is to wait until the sale is ending to buy anything that isn't a flash/ community choice/ daily deal.

I haven't read through it yet, though, so can't offer a summary opinion.

On the other hand, I'll probably get it. I've been looking for another space 4X since I was disappointed by Endless Space (it was very pretty and I liked how it handled systems interface-wise, though I might've preferred the GalCiv/Imperium Galactica sort, but the game was unfriendly for a builder strategy, or maybe I just sucked at it).

Also looking at Planetary Annihilation since it's the cheapest its been yet, but $40 is still a huge chunk for a play-now pre-order. Even if it really delivers, I don't like supporting this sort of thing (mad cheap play-now beta access is still odious but at least its cheap).

So after all that stuff about HoM&M a few days ago, the entire series (except VI) is now on sale at GOG. Providence, perhaps? I think I shall take advantage of this offer...
