In my defense, "free" is still much cheaper than "$5" for a game I won't ever be able to play with friends.

I skipped on it before because I'm pretty sure my desktop won't handle it... but for *_FREE_*, I'll add it to my shelf.  (I didn't try DLing it though)

It would've been nice if they had rolled it out a little differently, but Steam handles some serious throughput very well most of the time...  they're allowed a little outage.

I understand grabbing it because it's free - I *hate* racing games and I picked up a free copy of a racing game a while back just because hey, free.

I'm just surprised that there's such a huge number of people who don't have it, but feel the need to rush on and grab a copy, that steam is being crushed.

Maybe valve didn't expect it either.

Edit: Kinda makes me wonder how much money per minute valve is losing while the store is down. Those free copies of L4D2 might be costing them far, far more then they planned on.

However I do like the Mario Cart franchise.
But aside from that, I have little to no no interest in racing.

Aaand after fighting for one and a half hour, I managed to get it!.  . And there was much more rejoicing because only a week ago 4 uni friends picked up a 4-pack, and I refused to purchase because I "didn't feel like playing it".

I sometimes think I could fight for a turd if they gave it to me free of charge.

This is a load of bullshit, hasn't Steam paid any attention to what happened to GOG when they had their little November sale?

Being fair, though this is total conjecture, there may be weather related shenanigans involved for server infrastructure they've got in the states right now. I think there's some chunks up north that's been hit by ice storms or somethin'. Might have downed something vital in Valve's infrastructure. That plus a heavy load could be mucking with things. Act of god(s), as they say, basically.

It'll be interesting to find out what the actual reason is, though. Whenever it starts working again.

It's just people getting L4D2. Give it a few hours. Knowing Valve if it goes on too long they'll just extend the sale / giveaway anyway. Honestly, just relax. Go play some of the games you guys bought.

Now back to waiting for KAG to go on sale.

Just a note for anyone grabbing the free L4D2, you need to at least start installing it by the 26th or it reverts to full price, at least according to the announcement on the l4d2 group.
