Alright, I got myself 10€, I'm looking at the sales...
And there's just nothing to buy.

Like seriously.
Sure, X-COM:EN for 10€ is a good deal, but I doubt it'd keep me occupied long enough.

I don't see anything spectacular in Steam Sales.

F2P is usually pay to win. If you don't already know about it, I'd hit RogueBasin for good free games.

X-Com is likely to give you 30-40 hours regardless of if you beat it or not. I have 53 hours on the pc and 38 hours on xbox. I also have a short attention span.

I know of RogueBasin (although rather vaguely).

I wish I could just finally boot up Starbound, but NO.

Anyone play Prison Architect? Seems like the type of game that would be fun if you hadn't played DF before, but a bit shallow if you had...

I've been playing it off and on ever since the alpha was released. The most important thing: it's still clearly in alpha. Many features aren't yet implemented, many others are still a little buggy. If you don't like playing unfinished games, wait until it's actually released.

Actual gameplay is fun, but a little repetitive. Money becomes an issue - income is very limited once you exhaust your starting grants, so the game can become a slow grind once you've spent a couple of hours on a prison. And there's little incentive to start a new prison unless you've got a specific design in mind, since every prison starts exactly the same way and with the same resources.

This should be fixed by campaign scenarios later in development, adding a variety of challenges to encourage different prison designs. At the moment, though, you have to treat it a little like DF megaprojects - come up with a theme or objective for each new prison, or you'll find the end-game completely missing.

It definitely has a different feel to DF.
I like it, but I like just about everything by Introversion so I'm probably biased.

Finally bought a game from the Steam sale!

Retro City Rampage - at that price, I could not say no! Had a quick hour with it - very fun with some great references.

I already have Baldur's Gate 1 and have tutu'ed it (although must admit, not yet actually completed the game). Now BG: Enhanced Edition is 75% off and I'm tempted to buy that too.

Should I? Shouldn't I? Is it better than the original with tutu applied?

I don't know what NS2 is but The Pit is a great time killer, much like a more serious Dungeons of Dredmore but in SPACE! It's not the best game ever, but a great way to lose a few hours.

Yeah, I actually discovered I hate crafting in the way SotS: The Pit does it. Basically you need to try infinite combination of things that might or might not make sense to get things. I also felt it didn't give you the same feeling of tactical depth that most roguelikes do. It was as much of a disappointment to me as Dungeons of Dredmore was :( I really wanted to like it too :(

Natural Selection 2 is pretty nifty, if a little heavier on the machine than I expected. You just *need* to play as a team, so headphoning is a big plus!

Yes or no on NS2
I bought NS2 for thr ~6.50$ USD saleprice earlier this year.

Worth the sale price not the fullprice. It's an Aliens vs Marines FPS/RTT hybrid where both teams have an RTT commander that directs construction/expansion/research/grandstrategy/minorsupport while all their units are actual players in an FPS. VERY different playstyles and strategies for both sides.

Was originally a HL1 mod, now is a source mod with it's own executable. Compared to the original, NS2 is HORRIBLY unoptimized. DO NOT GET IT IF YOU DONT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED SPECS. I'm not joking. I exceed the recommended specs and it still turns from a full 60 FPS into a slideshow on the minimum settings at the worst possible times.

I've logged over 30 hours, and it IS broken, but still very enjoyable. Play green (literally green) servers which are the noob friendly ones at first. The game HEAVILY favors the Alien team, and I'm not just saying that as a butthurt Marine player. The NS2 stat tracker shows all public matches for every patch/version of the game has over 50% wins for the Aliens, and all competitive matches Aliens consistently win 2/3 games at a minimum. From experience I can tell you it's largely because the skill ceiling on the Aliens is insane (Equally skilled Alien and Marine player, the Alien can do more damage), and going from 60 to 2 FPS because of shit optimization hurts the Marines (guns against tiny fast targets point blank) more than the Aliens (melee). All experienced players tend to play Aliens because they can do more solo, and all new players tend to drift towards Marines because it's more familiar, which really doesn't help the imbalance.

If you play nothing but quick pub games it's nearly a 50/50 (~55% Alien victories) balance, and actually very fun. As much as I bitch about the game balance, the two teams are so different it's amazing they managed ~55/45% for public matches. You'll still run into the one or two veteran Alien players that can kill 6+ Marines in seconds at the start of the game, but after that a team scramble vote usually passes.

I think you can get more than 6.50$ of entertainment out of it. Just stick with your team whatever side you're on and you'll be better than the average new player.
