I can't find this thread you're referencing, search for dust elysian yields six results, three of which are this thread (Just dust yields hundreds of results). Do you have a link, perchance?

I've been looking slightly in the direction of Dust: An Elysian Tail, mostly because the art looked vaguely interesting. Does anyone have an opinion on the actual game?

From this thread, my review, comparing it to Aquaria (the reason I bought it was because I got a very Aquaria-like impression from the art and trailers):

Finished Dust. It's certainly not Aquaria, but that's not saying that it's bad. The backgrounds are very artistically appealing, and I felt like it worked very well. The hack-and-slash action was pretty fun, and the controls, even on a keyboard, felt solid. The only exception to that is menu browsing, which I'd either use my mouse for (which I did), or a controller (which I don't own). Dust, his sword, and the sidekick Fidget were all well-executed artistically, in my opinion. However, I felt that the art for the rest of the characters was not that good, but I'm not sure what else I could ask for. Perhaps it's that all the people are anthropomorphic animals instead of people that threw me off, but it just didn't feel right. There are also a few moments where the character animations during dialogue felt like gratuitous 3D modelling.

The story was pretty good, in my opinion, but I think it could have been improved with a bit more internal conflict for some of the characters (not going to explain, because spoilers). They definitely surprised me with a couple events that unfold that 'hit me right in the feels', so to speak. The voice acting was also pretty good: sometimes it was spot-on and well-executed and other times it could have done better. The ending, though, that was really well done. Boss fights throughout the game felt very "meh", but they pulled out the stops on the last one and it did feel appropriate as a final battle. That ending cinematic, too. Man, that ending cinematic. That was well beyond par.

So, Dust: An Elysian Tail has great scenery, really good art on average, and a pretty good story. This would be wonderful for an immersing experience, but Dust's greatest weakness is that it never stops reminding you that it's a game. Right from the beginning, you get the whole "To quickly attack with the Blade of Mal'jahsed, wielded once by Lord Aerlon, Son of the Bloodied King, forged in the fires of Strathelm at the Core of the World, press the 'B' button" bit (not an actual quote). The sidekick also repeatedly breaks the fourth wall. This wouldn't be that big of an issue if the game felt more like a parody, and in some cases it does feel like the game itself isn't taking it too seriously, but with a story so compelling and a world as beautifully detailed that just begs to be immersed in, it just feels wrong, like it's pulling the player in two separate directions.

Aquaria also had a very neat and personal story and an absolutely gorgeous world, but it didn't kick you in the face every time you leaned in too close to what was happening. Playing Aquaria was like living Aquaria. Playing Dust is like playing Dust and wishing you got to be on better terms with it.

Is Dust worth $14 or $15 bucks? I think so, but mostly because I think that charging less for a solid game that's recently come out isn't a good idea. I can't honestly say that I'm perfectly satisfied, though. I think that the next game put out from the same developers has the chance to be great, but it feels like Dust missed its mark for me. I'm certainly not saying that you shouldn't buy it, though. If you think you'd probably enjoy it, you probably will. If you don't think you would enjoy it, then chances are you probably won't although it may surprise you.

Is it worth buying the three dollar Commando collection pack?

It might be worthwhile to say that most of it was done by one person (art, hand drawn, and programming).
I can see the potential for annoyance from 4th wall breaking but I did not think it was too. Ad and worked ok in most cases
Fidget (the flying bat/fox thing) is either a navi or a good character depending on who you ask... I thought she was entertaining.

I say it is well worth the full price and if you 100% it you probably will play for around 15 hours I think, main story and some backtracking took me 11ish hours that I enjoyed.  If you want a challenge play on the hardest difficulty though, is a fairly easy game (I had little trouble playing on normal and I tend to play on easy for most games)

Played it for 1 minute, decided I hated the characters, story and gameplay so far, uninstalled it.

What's the current Community's Choice options? I only see Van Helsing and The Walking Dead. I'm assuming there's another game but it's no available in my regions. I'm curious what would happen if it won. Does the region just miss out on a sale?

The walking dead, van helsing, and... there was something else there a few hours ago, but it's gone now. Strange.

I am with you , Hemminjay. 30 - 60 minutes is needed to get a feel for most games.

Argh! Surgeon Simulator won, I wanted Primordia. I've been looking at that for a while, it looks like an interesting game. Not a lot of point-and-click adventures around these days, and the story seems interesting. I'll wait until the last day, of course, but if it doesn't go on sale I'll probably buy it at the current 40% off price.

Decided to focus my attentions this year and get The Secret World for all my minions. Planning to do the same with Monaco and just miltiplayer my way through to winter when all the single player stuff I want shoulf have neat little GoTY packs instead of a mess of overpriced DLC.

On the cards side of things, I have three Dead Islands, a Prison Architect and a Tomb Raider that I am looking to exchange for Football Manager or Torchlight II on a 1:1 basis.

Sell your Dead Islands, and buy a Football manager and a Torchlight II. DIs are going for $0.15, FMs for $0.16, and TL2s for $0.13

We now have a dedicated steam trading card thread.

Please take it over there as discussion about the "steam economy" confuses and sickens me when I consider the amount of effort people go to over useless cosmetic digital items.

On a different note I'm considering Reus since it looks like a bit of fun. Problem is that I'm between payments and $5 for something I'll likely spend 30 minutes on and find some excuse to move seems fairly steep. There's also the very real worry of it ending up in an indie bundle in a few weeks time.

I bought Reus and love the mechanics of it, but have a ton of trouble running it. The game is suprisingly resouce-intensive and on my older computer becomes essentially unplayable as soon as I place any animals (which are fairly essential). My advice would be to pass on it for now, wait until it's had some more patches to work out the kinks and then bundle for it.

Sorry about missing the cards thread. Didn't even think to look.
