Guys, quick opinion, would XCOM:Enemy Unknown be worth it for $10 as opposed to $40. Silly question, obviously it's better cheaper, but the question is is it good?

Yes of course, I spent 50 on it, and didn't feel too cheated.

This. I had fun with it, and it's the only XCOM I've beaten so far :P

Well, it depends.

If you've played the orignal UFO: Enemy Unknown, then you have to be aware that many mechanics are streamlined/dumbed down a bit.

Does it make it a bad game? No, just less complex than it's predecessor. Many people hate the game for it, but I've played both, and I think they're both equally impressive games in their own right.

FTL is up for $2.50.  I have a copy from humble bundle but no steam key... anyone know if copying the data file would somehow NOT unlock the ships on a steam version? I'd like it on steam and that's a great price, but I don't want to unlock the ships again...

Depends on where Steam version saves its save files. You can probably find a modified profile with ships unlocked.

If you copy the data file, then yes you get the ships. The steam saves should be in,
C:\Users\(Your name)\Documents\my games\fasterthanlight. It's the prof.save one.

Awesome, thanks much.

... so, uh. Any of you folks have an opinion on Overlord? It, its expansion, and the sequel are going for about five bucks right now, and I've run into it enough in fanfiction crossovers I'm somewhat tempted.

Oh, that satisfying feeling when the questions that you have are already answered. Thanks for the advice about X-com.

It's not a bad game. Think of Pikmin with goblins and murder.

It is another game that I have on my back burner of games to play, though, so keep that in mind. I played it for a few levels, but then got distracted by shinier things.

I enjoyed it. Think Pikmin (if you've played it). It's certainly not going to blow your mind, but it's an enjoyable enough game. Make sure you get the expansion - it's incredibly well-integrated into the main story, adding new content as the adventure progresses (while still making sense if you play it after beating the main story), and adding a considerably better ending too. Honestly, it's IMO one of the examples of how best to add expansions to a game.

The second is basically more of the first, with a couple of minor tweaks (mostly to magic). There's a few changes I didn't really like - Dominating towns was obnoxious and boring, and there's one puzzle involving spiders and an elevator that's positively brutal. If you enjoyed the first, I'd recommend it.

Overall, probably worth it, especially for $5.00.

Two games plus an expansion for 5 bucks would be worth it anyway. Still, they're fun games. I prefer the original Overlord, it just had a smoother experience, but the two are a very fun and memorable experience if you can let the occasional camera issue, gameplay issue, or subpar graphic quality slide. I enjoyed playing through both of them, though I wouldn't say they're great for replayability. Mostly because of those aforementioned bits. If you're into fantasy stuff though, the experience is great.

Ye gods, don't mention that part. That was more hell than Overlord 1's entire expansion, which is set in Hell.

Also, FEZ is on sale for $7.50 USD. Definitely awesome, it's so much deeper than what I thought, and there's plenty of great dimensional platforming puzzles, collectibles, places to explore, charming atmosphere, and ohmagurd it's just so cool. Definitely worth it if anyone's interested, and at half price it's a decent amount for supporting the dev. Good platforming fun.

Man, if I had any money I'd totally get it (Fez).  It's been on my wish list a while, but I'm saving up for so many RL-important things right now that I'm not buying more than one game per job acquired >_>

Barring random price fixing for various regions of the US, I picked it up about half an hour ago for less than that.
