So, question time: Is endless space worth it?

General consensus around the web has been that ES wasn't _bad_, but a bit under-baked and lacking a soul.  Our thread hasn't seen activity since January.  The expansion DLC seems to be a major overhaul for combat, which was something that drew a lot of complaints previously.

I've already spent my entertainment budget for the month, so I won't be getting it on sale (this time)... but otherwise I would be quite tempted indeed.

Definitely!

It's as good as the game is bad, which means it's pretty awesome, 'cause that name must've cost them tons of purchases... it's a TERRIBLE name!

I highly recommend that you don't create a large galaxy for SPAZ. In my opinion it gets way too grindy with the larger settings and a smaller world with more level variation is a lot more fun.

I thought the name was pretty apt. It has space, pirates, and zombies. (And now bounty hunters)
+1 to "should buy" as the game is well-worth 1 play through, though replay value is rather small.

So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

Some of the mods are pretty good too. Don't remember which one it was exactly, but one of them had a multi-mount turret that worked for each weapon type. The weapons weren't the full size of the mount (and its a bit finicky to click on them all), but when you have a quad-mounted SRM launcher (or several), you ain't going to miss unless you aren't trying.

And a lot of the grinding concerns can be sort of done away with. I usually levelled up really fast by being in systems at my level or slightly above. It's risky, but damn you get tons of experience! :)

Good ambient music, refreshing combat mechanics, pretty funny dialog.  I bought it for full price and am satisfied, replayed it last month.

Edit: I'll add that on replay you can choose for techs to be randomized.  So while particle beams seemed a bit OP the first time I played, random chance led me to use energy weapons on the recent replay.
Game length is also highly dependent on galaxy size.  I recommend a small galaxy and low difficulty for a first playthrough.

I personally found SPAZ to be grindy and repetitive.

Natural Selection 2 (66% off), on the other hand, is an excellent game if you're into FPS with a dash of strategy.

The daily deal is Star Drive for $15. Worth it?

Chivalry and Natural Selection 2 are 66% off, both are $8.50

Natural Selection 1 was one of my favorite HL1 mods. Is Natural Selection 2 worth buying? I'm afraid that the community has degenerated, or they seriously fucked up the game somehow.

Would like some opinions from someone who also likes NS1 and bought NS2.

I never played NS1, but I found NS2 to be great fun. The community was better than most online games (which isn't saying much, I'll admit), and it felt like there was some genuine strategy being executed (especially on lower-population servers).

Would definitely purchase for $8.50.

Its.... okay. It is a little difficult to use, enough to the point where you really wish it wouldn't have been real time. Ship design could be cooler if you didn't have to place EVERYTHING. I don't feel like I got my Not sure it is worth 15 IMO.

I bought StarDrive at full price when it was still early access. It was released in April but honestly I think it should have stayed early access until the game gets further polished.

I enjoyed playing Stardrive, it's a nice 4x-lite/rts game. I don't think 14.99 is a bad price for what it is however I think you would be better off waiting for the game to finish being developed. As it stands it looks like that might take a while.
