There's a Carpe Fulgur collection sale. Recettear, Chantelise and Fortunes Summoner is 75% off.
I recommend these games to anyone who enjoys the demos. The rest of the game is about the same, in each case.

As much as I enjoy all the Civ5 bashing, could you guys maybe discuss that in a thread with that as the topic?
No, it is relevant as it is on sale. It's just not a very good sale.

Edit: nvm, there's a thread about it and a demo is out so I can try it myself :)

The Witcher series is on sale. You can get 1 and 2 for just over $10. Any opinions on them?

The first is still rather good if you can get passed the combat. The combat tried to stay more true to cRPGs and was more focused on pre-buffing, stats and enemy weaknesses with a tacked-on combo and style mechanic.
The Witcher 1 has a great plot with some interesting characters and locations but can drag on in parts. It does make you feel more like a witcher in the first game where Geralt has a loose Witcher ethos of neutrality and not wanting to kill people. Geralt in the Witcher 2 plays so much politics and baths in blood it's not funny.

The best advice I have for playing the Witcher 1 is to sink all your skills into magic like ignii (since it's mildly more interesting than swordplay) and to not feel compelled to finish all sub-quests. A lot of them drag on for little reward and you'll be swimming in money if you loot everything anyway. Contract work is generally easily skippable.

There is some carry-on story from the first Witcher but it's not incredibly important. CD Projekt seemed to have tried to make the Witcher 2 pretty accessible.

They're great.  One of my favorite series.

REALLY tacked on. It is probably what turns Witcher into such a slog.

You will find that a lot of the "hard" enemies are just ones that drain your health.

Eh... I feel like they're sort of average in terms of gameplay, but I really liked the atmosphere and thought the sidequests were cool.

Maybe not that much fun if you're not looking for a new surface experience?
