You can make a wooden longsword, which is better than the copper shortsword you start with.

But the copper longsword is better than the wooden one. You could just stick with the starter sword if you like the shortsword mechanics. But no-one does.

Terraria on sale for two days, 66% off.  Does anyone not have it?  I enjoyed it, but I have the sense that the multiplayer scene is pretty much dead.  So if multiplayer is your thing, you should have bought it long ago.

Definitely worth it.  It improved on the Borderlands 1 mechanics and interfaces, and has an actual good story now.

I'm waiting for the DLC too. I still remember buying FO3, then buying it again two years later because the GotY edition (with all the DLC) was actually cheaper than buying all the DLC separately. Never again.
