I haven't heard anyone say anything like that. Of course, I don't use SteamGifts or read the SteamGifts forum.

I do recall during the holiday sale there was rabble-rousing from people who bought the whole round of games with achievements then complained that they wasted all their money when the coal they got didn't give them another game.

Some people just miss the point.

I tend to figure those are probably the same kind of people who spend all/most of their spare money subsidizing their state/nation by buying lottery tickets, on the slim chance that they will win millions.

But but but it goes in line with the black swan principle: low probability high impact event.

Are you unlucky if you try to swim from America to Africa and you drown in the process?

Depends on what kind of creature you are. If you're a fish then you're unlucky...

I think a fish would have to be pretty stupid to drown

Depends on where the fish is. It's quite possible for aquarium fish to drown if their aquariums aren't properly oxygenated.

But in the case of a fish swimming in the Atlantic Ocean from America to Africa... I dunno.

They also have to keep moving so the water flows past their gills and give them oxygen.
Although it does beg the question what the definition of "drowning" is. I always thought drowning was too much hydrogen in the lungs from water which stops the blood from getting oxygen. While "suffocating" is not receiving enough oxygen into the lungs.

So I always though that fish can't technically "drown" but they can "suffocate". A quick check of wikipedia seems to agree with this, although I hardly studied the page.

EDIT: I just realised how woefully off topic this is.

It is related (vaguely) to Aquaria, which is neither on flash nor daily deal.
