Oh, this reminds me.

http://www.becausewemay.com/

Starting this Thursday there is going to be a ton of indie games on sale at steam & other vendors.  Looking at the list of games planning a sale I see at least 4 that I'm interested in.

So keep an eye open starting Thursday.  :)

The thief games 1 and 2 were both added to steam. They are also on sale for 5$ each or 13$ for the collection.

Are the games good?

Are...are they good??

*sobs

No seriously, they're right up there contending for the greatest PC games ever made.  I wonder what they've done to get them on Steam, though...they were a bit cantankerous to get running under Vista/7.

I'm guessing it's the pending release of Thi4f. (It kills me a little bit every time I type that.)

I actually meant as far as modifying the games to make them run...I suspect it makes them incompatible with Darkloader, which allowed some excellent fan made missions to be played.

I don't know whether that should be considered "pending" or "vaporware" at this point.  :(

Ah, right. I guess the last time I played Thief was on XP and it was smooth sailing.

As for vaporware or not....yeah. Square/Enix hasn't had much to say about the game in almost a year.

I'd like to buy the games, but has anyone here gotten them to run on Windows 7? I don't want this to be like Bioshock; buying games (especially more than one) and having them not work is no fun.

I don't know about the Steam version, but the original Thief games and System Shock 2 can all be made to run reliably under Windows Vista/7.  They generally require compatibility mode plus an affinity fix, since they weren't made to run under dual core.  The only part I've had difficulty getting to work is cutscenes, due to them using an ancient video codec.  It's a common problem in games from that vintage.

I didn't have to setup anything after downloading it, steam seems to take care of everything for you. I don't know if mods will run on it however.

Alright, thanks guys. I'll be getting them. Sound fun. If mods don't work, I'll be able to cope - a worthy sacrifice for actually being able to play the game.

Thief series is 50% off. Sneaky thievery, specialized arrows, etc.

I'm still undecided on Dead Island. Is it worth a meager £8? From what I've seen it looks pretty neat, if a little buggy in places.
