Spent about $20. The fact that I know that so many new games are beyond my system specs helped save money.

I spent $48.50 out of my $50 budget for this sale. Cutting it close?
I can top that. Spent $49.64 out of $50. Damn you Steam, for not having DLC for 36 cents!  :P

My haul:
Day of Defeat (won through the 'cheeve pile)
Dungeons of Dredmor
Left4Dead
Left4Dead 2
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
The Orange Box
Magic: The Gathering - Duel of the Planeswalkers 2012
Space Pirates and Zombies
Limbo
Double Fine Pack (Psychonauts, Costume Quest)
STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl
STALKER: Call of Pripyat
STALKER: Clear Sky

All in all, a pretty damn good trove of games. I daresay I won't need to buy anything new until at least the summer sale, if not next Christmas. (Or slightly earlier, if Valve throws a Mayan Apocaypse 2012 sale).

I bought:

  • Beat Hazard
    • This game is flashy as fuck, you almost need sunglasses to play it. Still pretty awesome.
  • Costume Quest
    • Haven't tried it yet
  • Dwarfs?!
    • Seems quite fun.
  • Gratuitous Space Battles
    • Also fun
  • HOARD
    • Fun at first, but not what I expected it to be. There is only 1 bot-mode in singleplayer, and it allows only 1 bot as well. Not many maps either.
  • Mass Effect 2
    • Haven't tried yet, should I?
  • Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword
    • Warband is better in every regard. Every.
    • Thus, it was waste of money for me.
  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
  • Universe Sandbox
    • Idea is fun as fuck, but I don't know how to use this for it's full potential (too complicated for me :P)

I also got exactly 10 coal, didn't win anything (that is if the lottery has been done), got -50% of VALVe coupon, and 2 The Ship pack-gifts.

Mass Effect 2 was a very good game, your companions actually had some backstory, inclusion of ammo was a bit dumb but work non the less.

Universe Sandbox is more of a tool than a game. If you play stuff like Aurora, it's great for getting simulated views of particular systems (except in cases where Steve's algorithms don't hold up under a more scientifically rigorous simulator like Universe Sandbox). The best part is downloading simulations that other people have created (I believe there's one for the 12 colonies in Battlestar Galactica, and another for the semi-canon Firefly 'Verse)

Overall, I spent about $15, not counting Humble Bundle keys for a bunch of people. And even that $15 was mostly gifts for people. I already have plenty of games.

I spent around £25 over the sale.

Haul in reverse chronological order:
Universe Sandbox
All the New Vegas DLC's
Killing Floor Steampunk Character Pack 2
Defense Grid: You Monster DLC - won in a comp on the forums here
E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy
Psychonauts
Costume Quest
Chantelise
Dungeons of Dredmor + Realm of the Diggle Gods
Orcs Must Die! + DLC's
All the Total War: SHOGUN 2 DLC's
Humble Indie bundle #4 at around $5 so I could get the Cave Story+ bonus

+ several of the free to play games that I downloaded for the achievement hunt look interesting enough that I'll keep playing them.

I ended up getting KotOR, Audiosurf, Rock of Ages, and Sequence. I really thought I'd get away without buying anything this time, but at least I didn't go over ten bucks.

Rock of Ages is just bizarre and wonderful by the way.

Already posted my haul. I do believe I 1-upped RedKing in the "cutting it close" department, on the absolute scale with $0.35 left; however, he managed to have $10 more than I did and thus beat me in percentages.

If I'm lucky, Skyrim will be on sale for next year's winter holiday sale. Of course, then I'll be a broke college student...

At the end of the holiday sale I had 0.00 left in my steam wallet.

Dungeons of Dredmor
Empire and Napoleon Total War
Stalker Call of Pripyat and Shadow of Chernobyl
Cthulhu saves the world
Swords and Soldiers HD

I had Last templar too but I traded it away for coal which got me worst possible valve coupon. I'm pretty happy with these

Mass Effect 2
Fallout 3 GOTY
Fallout: New Vegas + all DLC
X3: Terran Conflict and albion prelude combo pack
Limbo
Wings of Prey (which turned out to be a bit silly and annoying) + dlc
Universe Sandbox

Adds up to about 50€, about half of that being Fallouts. Oh, and plus 35€ for a christmas present for my brother. Got him Bioshock, AC2 and Limbo.

All I bought was Shogun 2 plus all DLC since I had waited patiently all year. @ $14 total.
