The original MoW should be experienced for the voice acting alone. The campaigns are quite challenging and merciless too.

It had a decent enough single player campaign to be worth it.  It also makes a nice tech demo for testing new machines.

Hell, Mechwarrior Living Legends was the only reason I bought crysis during the last sale.

And guess what, totally worth it.

Assuming your computer can run it (and, frankly, they over-hyped the system requirements at launch, so assuming you have a decently-modern PC you can run it), I'd go for it. People love finding flaws in it, but it's still a lot of partially-freeform excitement in a fairly cheap package. Plus, it contains one of the very few levels in any video game where, despite packing several very powerful weapons and several equally-strong superpowers, I still was scared out of my wits.  :o

I enjoyed Crysis, to be honest.

And I ran it on a P4, 2 gigs of memory and an ATI Radeon 9800.

So, suck it, monster specs.

I appreciated the open approach to many areas. All FPS are corridor shooters, but Crysis at least tried to give you options. The Super Suit gives you the illusion of being very powerful, and it's a lot of fun to say "i'm going to explode the bottom of this building, super jump to the top, murder the guys up there, then go stealth and run into the jungle when reinforcements come."

The first quarter of the game is good. The second quarter of the game is very different, but in a good way IMO. The third quarter of the game is where it really ramps up the visuals and the cinematic fights. Unfortunately, the end of the game is terrible, like it is in many FPS when 60 foot tall bosses aren't fun to fight or spend an entire level dealing with.

Still, amazing looking aliens and flying enemies, zero gravity, good audio, good effects, a decent meta-thing going with the suit.....ON SALE, I think Crysis is still worth buying, especially now that almost anyone can enjoy it cranked up.

And on that note, $9.99 for ~15 gigs of game sounds like a pretty good deal. I think I'll buy.

I was going to get it, but I'm not a fan of the limited number of activations on the first crisis.  It would probably never actually effect me, but it still is annoying.

I picked up Assault Squad since I promised myself that if it was less than $15, I'd buy it. Man, it's so much more fun now. So much more balanced, for one thing.

No more mass super heavy tanks and arty spam. Infantry are actually useful. Machineguns are amazing. Arty is very situational. Makes for a much more exciting online game.

Is that DRM still present on the Steam version? Ah, whatever. When I run up against, I'll get around it.

Ah, I see it is. Say 5 machine though, so I think that's the "can only have it on 5 machines at a time", not, "can only install it 5 times then you have to call us."

Ah, that's not as bad.  I can't imagine myself installing it on more than 3.

Ech, now I remember some of the things about Crysis that kind of pissed me off.

-It takes a million freaking rounds to kill someone when shot in the body.

-Using vehicle weaponry with the 3rd person camera is 4x as accurate as FPS aiming.

-The choppers, ooooohhhhh gooooddddd the choppers. 3 hit with a 40mm grenade is harder than it sounds, while it pelts you with machine gun fire and, if he's feeling saucy, missiles.

I'm about to do the beach assault level, and I remember last time I had zero ammunition and ended up fighting one chopper for like 20 minutes and running 1/2 across the level to find rocket launchers.

And that was on normal. This time I'm playing hard. But I'll be prepared. Oh yes, I will be prepared.

On that note, it tells me enemies are supposed to not speak English, but they still are.

They just moved over to Crysis Wars, so buy Warhead if you want to play MWLL.
