Just who does Valve think they are, charging $20 for it when it's not on sale?

I made the post with 2 hours left 'til the sale ended. I got distracted and missed it.

Oh well. At least Chestmaster: Challenge is on sale, now. ::)

Can't you get it on GoG for a better price, like $10?

Considering getting something from the Dawn of War sale, not sure what to get. I will most likely be into a good single player campaign, not so much multiplayer but I do like multi sometimes. I like lots of bells and whistels these days since I finally have a decent computer after decades of being 10 years behind everyone else.

If I was to buy some DoW things, what ones would be considered essential?

Speaking from personal experience, DoW II has a nice single-player component, and with the graphics turned up it definitely meets the requirement of "bells and whistles".

Of the three games (of course, you could just buy all 3 for $30...):

The base DoWII has the longest campaign, and a surprising amount of freedom. You can only play as the Space Marines, though, which slightly limits your options.

Chaos Rising has a more linear campaign, although the morality system gives at least a little replay value. The missions also tend to have more depth and variety, whereas DoWII insisted on throwing 'defend the location!' missions at you every few days. Still restricted to Space Marines, though.

Retribution does away with GFWL, which was a nice bonus, and the campaign lets you play as any of the 6 in-game races. The downside is, the campaign is basically the same for each race (for the most part, they slightly reorder the missions, and there are tiny changes to some objectives), so replay value dies off pretty quickly. If you're looking to do multiplayer, make sure you get this one, since AFAIK it's the only one that's still active.
Plus, Retribution's having a free weekend, so you can give it a try beforehand!

Oh man, The Last Remnant looks awesome, like Final Fantasy XII. I would totally play that, but I KNOW it would be one of those ones just intensive enough to run my laptop too hot to enjoy properly.

Heh, FFXII was my first thought too. Even the art direction looks the same.

If it's really, really good someone let me know, because I've been far too disappointed with Console-style RPGs the last couple of years to even give it a shot.

Bought The Baconing at 50% off though. Pretty simple and repetitive combat (so far?), but otherwise quite good.

I've got The Last Remnant (being a relatively big FF fan myself), and while I found it quite fun it never really grabbed me for some reason - I played perhaps a dozen hours and then just kinda drifted away to other games.

That said, that's what I tend to do with a lot of games, so it's not a bad sign - it's just the lack of an awesome sign, if that makes sense.  In comparison to FFXII, I found it about the same kind of enjoyment level, so if you're a fan of that then it's probably worthwhile picking up.

Re: laptop overheat...yeah, it's a bit intensive.  If there's a demo or something else you can use to test it out first, I'd do that.

If you want the best, purest RTS experience, get Dawn of War 1 or Dark Crusade.

If you want the most advanced RTS with, as was said, the most "bells and whistles" Dawn of War 2. The SP campaign is basically a lite-RPG, which sets it completely apart from DoW 1. On the other hand, I found the actual battle portion of DoW 2 much less fun than DoW 1. Way fewer units, and a sort of "hack and slash" mentality. I could write pages on what I think is wrong with DoW 2, but I'll just say it can be fun if you're not expecting a classic RTS experience. It also has a meta campaign that you can play through DoW 2 into Chaos Rising.

Just can't get over how boring and repetitive the SP missions actually are.
