Minotaurs!
« on: March 15, 2011, 05:15:40 pm »

So, I was playing some Genesis mod, and my steel dwarf was being the biggest badass ever, but then minotaurs happened. The first time I tried to kill one, it murdered both of my buddies and broke my shoulder , but I managed to one-shot it with a lucky strike to the head. Much later, I got a quest to kill another one. This one had an axe and crippled me with a single hit to the foot. I ran behind my buddies, hoping that they would cover me, but they got slaughtered in seconds. The minotaur then cornered me and mercilessly chopped me to pieces while I was unable to land a good hit on it.
So, how do I kill these bastards? Maybe I should have brought a bigger party (I only had 6 orcs the last time), but I don't know if it would worked very well in the tight corridors. I could have tried to sneak and throw things (my dude was a legendary thrower), but the minotaurs seem to always spot me as I'm coming around a corner. Maybe my dude just needed more skills.

P.S. How do the new materials in Genesis relate to each other. My guy had Black Steel equips, but how does it compare to Sun Gold or the other stuff?

Might be better to put his in the mod section, cause a lot of what you said to me was gibberish.

I always though the mod section was for people discussing how to make mods. I figured this would go here, since its a gameplay question and since Genesis mod seems fairly popular, I assumed people would know what I'm talking about. Also, what exactly was "gibberish" to you? I would be happy to clarify it.

I don't know why people keep telling minotaurs are hard. My second encounter with one of them oxheaded dullards was like:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dodge, strike, and then dodge some more. That will do it.

I think it goes like this. Steel<Black Steel<Red Steel<Adamantine. Sungold, I think, from using it occasionally, is similar to regular steel.

I think it goes a bit more like this Adamantine, Red Steel, Sun Gold, Black Steel.

Check "relative values". And I see KotW's point, asking about a random mod in the general section is not always a good idea :).

Minotaurs have quite high weapon skills (and I gave them more skills than in vanilla and they are higher) so mediocre characters die a lot. Lots of dodging and headshots are both good ideas, but you are very likely to get a leg/hand damaged too which would cripple and kill you.

The goal to killing megabeasts that are faster and stronger than you.

1) Cripple their legs

2) Cripple their arms

3) Smash their head in!

They are not megabeasts. And they can do the same to you :).

It's quite hard to do with minotaurs. Easier to make them to bleed out, they have really hard heads.

Trust me, It's much easier when you have broken their arms and legs.
