-The Bard's Guild-

Membership is open!

All of the following is to be modified at the will of the members:

=Purpose=
The Bard's Guild is a sister guild of The Engravers Guild and The Crafters guild. This guild shares the goals of creative and technical advancement of its members, but with a focus on musical works. All instruments are welcome, as is everything one would like to play, be it covers, improvization, or original compositions.

=How to Participate=

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
-Getting Critique-
Generally, it is best to describe the difficulty you may be having with a piece, so that you can focus the members' advice on the elements which you are working on. For example: You draw a dwarf, but you'd like the image to show more depth. Note this in the post and we will focus on that specific problem.

Try to describe which effects you are trying to achieve as clearly as possible.

It is also important not to take critique personally, even if it is poorly given. Remember that it is difficult to gauge someone's intonation through text alone.

-Giving Critique-
Always be as constructive as possible with critique; that is, when identifying a weakness, give a possible solution as often as possible.

Try to identify which elements/techniques work/fail and state why.

Embrace divergent styles. Difference is good, try to understand what the person is aiming for and gauge the usefulness of your critique against that.

=Ongoing Project(s)=

=Resources=
If you have any sort of useful link at all, please just post it and it will be added to this list as soon as possible. Don't worry if it doesn't fit an existant category - we will add new ones as neccessary.

Three guilds, I like that.

I can see how in the future, the forums will be cut in three groups, each led by the great guilds, they will fight for the control of the lower forums.
Oh the bloodshed! Oh the humanity!

No, but really, I do like it. It shows bay12's creative side.

No I'm not psychic. I just know that this is dwarf fortress. and the most stupidly awesome and inexplicable thing is probably going to be the first thing to happen.

Oh, I'm so in.

[1] OK, more along the lines of capable. I can play well enough to not sound like failwhale's vehicle of choice, the roflcopter. But nowhere near the level of people who do this on a professional level, or even as a lazy hobby for a handful of years.

Oh, I suppose I should make it clear that I want to join. :P

I am dabbling with an old Roland MC505 Groovebox and intend to utilize the computer for making music, too.
I have an album online at last.fm. I am having problems finding (or making) samples fitting to my music.

Also I am quite capable with the Djembe.

This is a great idea, I'm actually surprised I hadn't thought of it before. I play guitar, piano and trombone, with trombone being my forte.
I'd love to contribute to this, though I don't really have any sort of recording device, I might try to find my parents old camcorder and see how the sound is.

I play the Baritone Horn and I'm learning to sing. I did some testing and apparently my vocal range is 'Baritone'. I found this damn hilarious.

I'm currently working on a project that involves both, so I'll post that when I get it recorded with a decent mic.

Is the sexiness too much? :p
As I discovered recently, as long as you can reach all the keys, and have the lungs, you can play any saxophone you can get yer hands on.

Siquo, Dabbling pianist (Very Rusty).

And Very Rusty meaning I haven't played anything seriously for at least 15 years, when my musical career was cut short by drugs&females, the dark sides of success...
Basically I'm just posting-to-follow :)

I'd like to join the guild: Adept composer, competent guitarist and vocalist, adequate drummer, novice pianist, dabbling lyricist/poet.

I'm writing soundtracks for Cult: Awakening of the Old Ones and for Towns.

'Scool. I was supposing this'd work like the Engravers' guild, and the Crafters' guild, so you'd just post all you can play, and receive critique and compliments.

I guess I could try and find something to record with, but that's for tomorrow.

Ooh, I'll pop in. I used to play saxophone a lot more than I do, but of late I've been a penny whistler and a wind synth player. I'm getting myself a dulcimer around Christmas.

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.
