At one point back when DF had just become 3D I had a dragon land in a depot breath fire on a dwarf cowering among a bunch of barrels of booze. What exactly happened game mechanics-wise has been debated several times, but what happened practically was that the depot exploded, chunked the dragon into flaming dragon bits, and hurled said all over the area (resulting in several wildfires and a lot of scattered dragon bones).

Here's the challenge: Devise and test a siege defense around exploding booze.

No, no, no, you're going about this entirely the wrong way. What you need to do is write a crossover fanfic between DF and Eragon. Twilight cameos optional.

Embark with NOTHING, and kill all but one of your dwarves (the expedition leader). Then use your last dwarf to build a fort and kill everything that enters the map.
Maybe take an ash bar, an anvil, and some ore if you feel wussy.

EDIT: Ooh, better idea! Make it so that each z-level has a spot in the middle colored like a frame of the intro movie so that scrolling down through the fort is like watching the intro!
Bonus: Make the blue mining tunnel out of the blue stuff!

Whenever i get bored, i roleplay.
i spend a lot of time on the prep screen, looking at each of the seven starters' personalities and whatnot, determining their skills based on that, instead of how usefull they'll be to the fort.
i also like to try and theme the fort once there's a bunch of us. Like, i'll try and get EVERYONE in a black robe and hood with a shortsword, regardless of whether they're in the military or not.

stuff like that just feels cool in my head.
