Fortress seppuku help needed
« on: March 15, 2011, 03:09:55 am »

As the title reads, I need to find some source of honorable death for my fortress--

1. I sprung hell, the military beat the demons, losing only ten men and it got really laggy, so I savescummed

2. tried unpausing and leaving the computer when a siege came, when I came back, one dead, every goblin captured in a cage

3.  removed all cage traps, walkway of death did the same thing with the next siege.

4.  I ran out of forgotten beasts :(

5.  If it helps I have a hydra and a giant--both can readily be released into the dining room, but with my luck they will die swiftly to a passing soldier.

6.  Justice helped (12 dead), but no one got unhappy except the captain of the guard--he, in fact, killed himself

So now what? Any suggestions?  I am seriously considering sacrificing everyone who doesn't worship the baronesses' god (who is just too perfect: "Kivish Questedcrazy is a deity of the Single Creation.  Kivish most often takes the form of a skeletal male dwarf and is associated with valor war death and suicide")

remove all doors, build a magma pumpstack to the entry of your fort, power the pumpstack and wall the generator off. Lock the front door. Watch everyone burn.

Above, or mine around the entire fortress and below it, and drop it in the magma sea, dwarves inside.

Pump stack sounds too complicated, but I kinda like the sound of dropping the whole fortress into the magma sea.  One problem--3 caverns. Also I was hoping to come back with an adventurer.

loyalty cascade, then.

Or build a very large drowning room, make everybody go to the burrows and turn the room on, locking the door.
Your adventurer will find mass suicide.

Or let everyone starve to death, destroying the farms and the food stockpile.

You could construct a Magma Exploration/Colony Vessel and a launch pad.... It should be able to house all your dwarves though. And lots of booze for the long journey to the center of the Earth.  ;)

Disarm all your soldiers, and release both hydra and giant, on opposite sides of the fort.  One in your magma forges (or the walkway to hell, if you've got that still) and the other at your entrance.  Bonus points if you leave all goblins armed and release them at the same time, in the middle of the fort.

The hydra broke free due to dwarf stupidity while being recaged.  it killed the dwarf that "freed" it. and took a bolt to the heart.  It was in the water gardens too--seeing the blood of a hundred goblins run off a hydra bleeding to death is really something.

Loyalty cascade huh?  And all I have to do is assassinate the dwarven outpost liason with one elite squad while another hangs out in, say, the dining room?

Worth a try...

The result should be everyone fighting and killing themselves to death, with the surviving ones going tantrum or mad. heard some times it doesn't happen, so try assassinate your baron/mayor too, to be sure. And be sure that you have witness.

never tried it myself, to tell the truth. FPS kills me, generally. Post results!

I don't know if they can get my baron, she is kind of a badass, with 60+ kills, the first couple of them being the other founders.

Build a ceremonial drinking chamber and fill it up with booze, make a burrow and put everyone in there, lock the doors and hatches, and then let in the magma.

You don't have to kill someone important.  Order an unskilled wrestler to kill a cow, and it'll mark the wrestler as a traitor.  Cue loyalty cascade.  That wrestler gets attacked by the next cheese maker who sees him, and that cheese maker gets attacked by the resident Migrant Lye Maker, and that lye maker...

Wait, what?  You "beat the demons"?  As in you defeated all of them somehow?  I was always under the impression that once Hell was open, it was only a matter of time before you were overrun by continuously growing waves unless you somehow sealed them back off.

FPS death is always an honorable death.

Or engage war against everyone and don't use traps.

It's treated as completely normal because this is Dwarf Fortress.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with surrounding yourself with a wall of flames, only to later realize that you're surrounded by a wall of flames.
There's nothing that can't be solved by hurling fifteen roc birds at it.

Technically that should be the case. But there have been occasions when people have dug into hell and got...well nothing. I know i dug into three separate addy veins and got about 3 crappy demons pop out. I got so tired of waiting that i abandoned.
