But I'm curious if anyone knows about the various sexes of the animals we have.

At the moment, I have two raindeer - I don't think they will breed, as I have a Male Raindeer Cow, and a Female Raindeer Bull.  This also occurs in Bulls and Cows, with both sexes of each. Can the different real-life sexes breed, or can bulls only mate with bulls?

Is this a 'feature/bug' or has Toady re-written the rules of biology?

Not complaining, just curious...

Are you sure you're not just misreading the gender symbols? According to my raws, the castes are named correctly, and there are only one gender of each.

Yeah... if you're using tiles, the males have a "sack" and the females a "amulet"

I've also, in 31.18, had two male cows start breeding, or at least producing baby female bulls...

But given the starvation/ranching/pasturing aspect now, I usually slaughter them for meat before they die or start picking fights.  I was wondering if I should start looking at breeding, and got wondering...

First possibility that comes to mind: whoever made your graphic set mixed up the gender symbols.

Second possibility: Have you toyed with your raw files?

I think know what he's thinking . He thinks a Reindeer can be a Bull or a Cow, but also a male or female.
So you would have Reindeer Bull (female) and Reindeer Cow (male).
Well, you can't. It's jut how castes work, dufferent castes can have a different name (Bull/Cow) and they can also be male/female/none. Dwarves/cats/dogs have both the castes with the same name so that might have confused you.
btw: there is no sex. only spores (is on map=breed)

Clearly, we need screenshots of this phenomenon so we can more easily ascertain the source of the problem!
