Jail Party
« on: March 14, 2011, 06:08:21 pm »

For some unknown reason, every Urist McChugalug is throwing down in my jail. Can anyone explain this to me? I've taken away all the foodstocks from there a while ago, but apparently the dwarves have decided that the cages and chains give the place a pretty happenin' vibe...

If you make a chain a room but don't explicitly set it to "justice," it will act as a meeting area and be available for parties.

How does that even follow? I mean, statues and permitted loitering zones make sense, but a chain?

The warden threw a party in the county jail
The prison band was there and they began to wail
The band was jumpin' and the joint began to swing
You should've heard those knocked out jailbirds sing

Let's rock, everybody, let's rock
Everybody in the whole cell block
Was dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock

A zoo. Obviously, you're supposed to put an animal on it for it to make sense.

Soo...what if its a chain on a wall but one that isn't set to be a room? Does that count as an eligible loitering/strange mood zone?

A chain or cage that is made into a room but not used for justice, is a zoo.  Cages can hold hostile creatures or invaders, while chains can hold tamed animals.

A chain on the ground is just a chain, no one cares.

Alright, I turned all of the chains to simply be chains and not rooms. I did the same for the cages. Except one cage that I kept as a room which is set to use for (great) Justice. And yet....

One in which one is expected to assumes the party submission position.

Ah, I had that happen in one of my forts! Made all the more Fun in that the jail was also the barracks, which ALSO doubled as the training zone. Where, y'know, I release goblins wearing the equipment they arrived with. And the recruits and I naively think grossly outnumbering a goblin should be more than enough, and it turns out the motherfucker can take down two competent warriors and cut another one's leg off.

The kind you might be too young to attend.  ;D

Jail Party: Don't drop your soap.

It's treated as completely normal because this is Dwarf Fortress.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with surrounding yourself with a wall of flames, only to later realize that you're surrounded by a wall of flames.
There's nothing that can't be solved by hurling fifteen roc birds at it.

Even after a siege, the Jail Party is still going strong.
