hmm.. danger rooms
« on: March 14, 2011, 04:24:16 pm »

So it's year 4 and my militia is pathetic.
Build a danger room they say, so I did.
A couple of cheap wooden spikes and it's all setup.
Pull the lever with repeat and after just a few turns my entire squad ends up in the hospital. 2 of them are paralyzed, The rest all have internal injuries and broken bones.
Brilliant!

TRAINING SPEARS NOT WOODEN SPIKES.

Clearly now all we need added are dogs with bees in their mouths and when they bark they shoot bees at you. Thus we can release them along with the dogs & bees themselves when unwelcome guests come to your fortress.

And then lock the door.

Details can be unforgiving in DF.

TRAINING SPEARS NOT WOODEN SPIKES.

Yeah, that was the most important step. (Not that I haven't made the same mistake.)

Danger rooms were never that complicated to me.  Training spears and full armor.  What's not to get?

Once I forgot they were in there and they starved to death, one time they went berserk from depression and killed each other, once they got mauled by the spears...

I had about 50 cats. Well, one of the training dwarves had almost all the cats as pets. Let's say they followed him in and let as a smear on his feet.

They followed, or they were told to follow?

The only good cat is a ☼cat meat roast☼, so... yeah. Either way, everyone wins, including but not limited to your dwarves, you, and your FPS.

Just use this helpful mnemonic: "If you use training spears, your rears need not fear, but use wooden spikes and your head's on a pike."

well since this's been cleared pretty much.
i still want to add....
use feather wood.
training spear has blunt attack type, lighter it is, less possible it does damage.
