But CANDU is still just another PWR reactor, at least the Chinese are researching proper, inherently safe reactor designs.

It seems the world (the people in the world, I'm aware the helium doesn't disappear) is already running out of helium, so making more is a good thing.

Exactly. Helium is so useful. Just remember, the Hindenburg wouldn't have happened with helium!

Exactly. Helium is so useful. Just remember, the Hindenburg wouldn't have happened with heliumnot insanely flammable skin material!



Anyway, the helium output of a fusion reactor isn't nearly enough to fuel the current consumption, even if we'd power the whole world with fusion. We're talking about an output measured in grams per hour, against a consumption measured in kilograms (15 million kg in the US alone over the total of 2000 to be precise).
