When do siegers finally give up?
« on: March 14, 2011, 12:13:42 am »

Largebusts has wasted 2 dragons, over 200 elves (they were at war with the parent civ from the beginning) and goblins and it's getting to be beyond a joke.

Seriously, will these guys ever get sick of getting their asses handed to them by my wrestlers?  Or will the amount of Fun dwindle away?

I don't think goblin attacks go away or scale down. I think you can make peace with elves but you might need to mod in a diplomat for them and have a noble.

See, goblins are attacking you less as a way of stealing wealth from you so much as a way of birth control from their massive overbreeding.  Consider that they attack you when you are strong rather than when you are vulnerable.

I think they give up when all your dwarfs are dead and they looted your fortress. Just a hunch, anyway.

I assume you're referring to the old bug where "notable" Goblins would lead sieges & once they died or left the map the civilization no longer had leaders. AFAIK that was fixed.

Non-notable Goblins are essentially spawned into your map from nowhere so they'll never stop. The more you kill, the stronger their forces should in theory become but there are bugs in the current version where they'll fight their own mounts, leaders, war beasts & non-goblin members (i.e. dwarves, humans, elves) when they appear. If they manage to dodge those bugs they can still be drowned by their own amphibious mounts or stopped in their tracks if the leader of a squad is caged by a trap.

I bursted out laughing so hard at this that my dog woke up, came in the room, and looked at me like I'm an idiot.

Then proceeded to brag about how he has 27 kills on his kill list and is super-doggenly tough.

I wonder what assloads are.

It's treated as completely normal because this is Dwarf Fortress.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with surrounding yourself with a wall of flames, only to later realize that you're surrounded by a wall of flames.
There's nothing that can't be solved by hurling fifteen roc birds at it.

Another name for sieges, forgotten beasts, or titans.

Nah, they're just a single large mass of non-recurring Fun.

Unless it was fixed in 0.31.19 or later, then it hasn't been fixed at all.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

So you cannot actually destroy the goblin civilization by killing every goblin they send your way...

No, but you can destroy important historical figures, like kings, if they send them at you.

Generic soldiers are generated out of thin air as of now.
