Sooo...another megaproject.
« on: March 13, 2011, 09:27:22 pm »

I really hate that I thought about this, because now I'm going to try it as soon as I embark and I'm gonna work my little slaves to death.

Anyway, I imagine a magnificent above-ground castle made of whatever, on a foundation of pure clear/crystal glass blocks. Then, carved into the ground under it, is an exact mirror image of said magnificent castle. Both would be inhabitable, but I would use the lower one as a fallout shelter in the event of a massive seige or something.

That didn't last long, huh? Shame, cause binary's cool. Anyway, an important message: I will be changing my names on every username based thing I use to ASCIt on/around 10/1. Consolidating, I guess you could say.

Mega-points if your dining hall is 2 Z's tall, and you mirror it perfectly.

Extra-bonus dwarf-mega points if you use the build wall then tear it down trick to put furniture on the ceiling.

Double the bonus if you do this for both sides. Furniture on both the floor and ceiling.

I figure I could put a reservoir smack dab in the middle and have a waterfall in the upper dining room and a geyser in the lower one. Both of which feed each other.

I'm not sure how the geyser would work.

Pressure won't force water up unless it can't go down or to the side.

If the castle is sufficiently tall, you may run into trouble if you breach the cavern layers. However, you could make it even more awesome by continuing on and constructing another castle entirely inside of the caverns.

No
Make it magma, and make the bottom one have a reverse magma waterfall so that it goes to the center. Now that's dwarf-like!

So now all we've got to do is to put a couple of grannies into the LHC and smash them against each other at relativistic speeds. Lather, rinse, repeat until we got results.

A magmafall like this one? Also currently restarting this in .21 with a few slight modifications. I just need a way to make cave moss and floor fungi grow on muddy stone and I'm set. Not sure about the bees though...

1. Get stone muddy.
2. Wait.
3. Grass.

I'm not sure how the geyser would work.

Clear glass 4-way pump stack, with multiple outputs that fall back into a collection pool? It's not exactly a geyser, but it'd look like one.

Try something like this for a geyser:

Basically as described above.  It has a glass tube suck up the water, which travels up, hits the faucet bell, then falls back down.  Looks like it's floating.
