A Fistful of Freedom, Chapter 1: The Welcome (Serenity RP)
« on: March 13, 2011, 07:27:40 pm »

Twin Rivers Landing, not exactly civilization in the strictest sense of the word, but it's the nearest thing that passes for a spaceport in these parts.  Located at the fork of two rivers, it's a gathering point of sorts, where the local farmers and miners take their produce to export off world.  Your group plans to do the same, assuming you last long enough to have anything to export.

The town itself is a bunch of ramshackle buildings next to the open field that serves as a landing pad.  On one side of the dusty street that serves as the main and only avenue are the spaceport and docks, crowded together.  On the other side sit the saloon, general store and stockyard, barely occuping the space.  Off in the distance aways you see a cluster of small wooden homes and the church out beyond the noise of the port.

As you step out of the spaceport you see that the streets are deserted today, there's no travelers in town except for your small advance party, landing here with some supplies in advance of the other settlers.  There's no sign of life at the stockyard or general store but out on the porch of the saloon a couple of old salts are playing a leisurely hand of cards and soaking in the morning sun.

Your first view of the town is interupted by Abbey Cabot walking out of the dockhouse and stepping up behind you.

"Hey, fellas, looks like we got a bit of a delay with the boat.  Boatman says that the barge we were gonna use for our gear has hit a spot of trouble.  Me'n Neil are talking with him about alternate arrangements." As she speaks you can hear, Neil your new town carpenter, still talking with the boat proprietor inside.
"He says he doesn't know where the boat went but I think this might mean we're hittin' trouble a little early.  You lads wanna head across the street and ask around?  Might as well make friendly with the locals and maybe they might give us a heads up?"
Having said her piece, Abbey headed back into the dockhouse.

A pretty, young brunette woman with calm blue eyes, and a young man with a badge, a gun on his hip and a lawmans stance take their first confident steps on-world...

"See, Erin, this place ain't so bad." Blue says.
Erin replies "Depends on your definition of *place*! This ain't so much a town as it is a watering hole with a few walls propping it up. Does anyone live here at all?"

"Still, it's a home for some. Don't get hung up on the particulars" He says, smiling, and pausing to move a stray lock of her hair from her brow. "I promise, we'll make this a decent place to live. For our friends, and our family...and I don't make promises lightly, as you well know."

"I know that...hmm, where's the other folks? The man with the busted up face, Lu Zhou and that trader?"

"They should be right behind us," Blue says, turning about...

Coal's first impression of the world possessed the eloquence and illumination of a particularly bright rhinoceros.

"Urngh."

It was a different setting, but it was the same in a lot of ways. It didn't Niska floating above it like a cheong bao ho tze spider either, which was in Coal's rather simple opinion, a good thing.

The two people in front of him had turned to regard him, the muscles in the ruins of his face twitched slightly. Ah, they wanted to stare let 'em, wouldn't effect how he was being paid. He went to follow Abbey, there wasn't money in talking to any of the others and there sure as hell wasn't any money in letting her walk into anything when he wasn't around to riddle with holes. Dead clients don't pay, he already had experience with that one.

Lu steps off of the ship and looks around, he turns to the two next to him and mutters. “哪里是医疗大楼“ Not bothering to ask their names due to his reclusive nature.

A registered alliance doctor, the last thing he expected was to be shipped to a new settlement, he would make the best of it and help whoever he could.

Erin and Blue notice the "friendliness" of their compatriots...

"They'll come around...now let's go meet locals, maybe find out what happened to the boat..."

They walk side by side towards the saloon, and wave friendly enough to the old men playing cards...

Blue says "Nice morning, ain't it friends?"

The pair of old salts look up from their game and eye Lu and Blue for a moment, maybe perplexed by the greetings, maybe mute.  It's hard to tell the difference as they don't seem to have much of a reaction at first.  Then one of them laugh, a sudden barking laugh that goes on for an awkward moment as he savors the humor that no one else seems to be getting.

"Miranda." he says when he's done having his laugh.  "I hear they got a right nice Medical center in Miranda, son."  He then turns back to the game and resumes play while responding to Blue.  "I suppose it's a nice morn'.  Hard to tell one way or another when you've had as many as I had.  You boys lookin' for something?  Bar's open if your aiming to get one last drink before headin' out into the wild."

Blue pauses a second "Well, old timer, I could use a drink, but what I'm after is related to my parties missing boat...seems we had a boat, now we don't. I'd be appreciative to anyone that could point us in the right direction as to where it might be."

Lu sighs and walks off to where he saw Abbey go, he approaches her once he finds her. “哪里可以设置我的医疗建筑“

Coal hangs around Abbey looking dangerous, the approach of Lu Zhou causes him to step forwards and place a large hand on the man's chest. He'd only heard the doc speak in Chinese, might as well make the vague effort to be polite.

"D’un Yi Shia." His tongue wasn't made for words, but he thought they were intelligible enough.

Coal had every intention of keeping him standing there until Abbey was done with the boatman. Mayor Cabot could talk with him just as well when she was done.

Must... not... crush... idiot doctor..

Coal tries to keep his temper in check, breaking the man's nose might solve the issue at hand but his employer would not approve.

"Sit still, shut up, and wait 'till miss Cabot is done." If the doc didn't understand english he would have to go by body language and tone. Coal was too busing not pounding him to conjure the right words.
